The role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Opto-electronics Engineer to join our Engineering Team. This role will support the continued development of Optical Receiver/ Transmitter products for Space and Defence applications, including both customer funded and internal development projects. The role will encompass all activities from development of early concepts, through detailed design, to production readiness.
Main responsibilities
1. Support design and development of new products working as part of a specialist design team.
2. Analyse and design for optical performance, including use of optical and electrical simulation tools e.g. optimisation of optical coupling, electrical layout simulation for high frequency data communication.
3. Prototype assembly, testing, fault finding and optical alignment.
4. Use of CAD to produce 2D and 3D working drawings and renders, as well as PCB layouts to support manufacture and evaluation.
5. Visibility of entire project lifecycle including support to qualification and verification activities.
6. Provide support to internal and external design reviews.
7. Provide support to definition of test criteria and test site development.
Education/qualifications
1. BEng or BSc in relevant Science, Engineering, Electronics based degree
Experience
1. Aptitude for or an interest in technology
2. Understanding of opto-electronic component performance and limitation, ability to select the most appropriate solution for our applications (desirable)
3. Knowledge of appropriate simulation and modelling tools and techniques (desirable)
4. Willingness to be involved in all aspects of practical engineering, including assembly and test of prototypes hardware
5. Knowledge of test and verification equipment and techniques, including calibration (desirable)
6. Awareness of production and assembly processes (desirable)
