Tanker Driver
Hello, we’re Severn Trent and we think water is wonderful. Oh, we’re pretty keen on people too.
24 hours a day, 365 days a year we serve 4.8 million households and businesses across the heart of the UK. Each cuppa drank and every toilet flushed is only possible because of the 9,000 brilliant team members working across our patch.
We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality. We know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our customers and the communities where they live.
If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you. There really is something for everyone here.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW
In this role, you will be working regular, local routes, driving CAT C and CAT C+E vehicles as required by business need. You’ll be responsible for safely collecting, delivering and transporting sewage and sludge in vacuum tankers between Severn Trent sites. It’s a great role for people who enjoy working outdoors, whatever the weather.
You’ll often be working alone, so it’s important you’re responsible and reliable – it’s up to you to assess risks and make sure you’re wearing appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment). You’ll also need to be computer literate to send emails and log details onto our company systems using a handheld computer.
We have 2 positions available:
1. Wednesday to Sunday shift: 48 hours per week, 4x 10 hr shifts, 1x 8 hr shift on Sunday. Start time 05:00 - finish time 15:30 or 13:30 on Wednesdays. Base salary £39,237 + weekend working shift allowance £6,600 PA, total earnings £45,837.
2. Monday to Friday shift: 48 hours per week, 4x 10 hr shifts, 1x 8 hr shift on Friday. Start time 05:00 - finish time 15:30 or 13:30 on Wednesdays. Base salary £39,237.
Your key accountabilities will include:
1. Collection of sewage, sludge or other non-hazardous wastes from Severn Trent sewage treatment works and transporting it to our discharge sites in line with our procedures and road transport legislation.
2. Performing and recording daily and weekly vehicle checks to ensure that both you and your vehicle are safe and roadworthy. Any issues must be reported to the relevant parties.
3. Liaising with other departments including Transport, Operations, and Maintenance to ensure you can complete your job to the best of your ability.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE
To be successful, it’s expected that you have a LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) driving licence (category C+E/class 1) and a Digital Tachograph card. Experience of driving with liquid loads such as petrol or dairy is a plus, but not essential.
We value character, positivity, and a caring attitude as much as skills and experience.

Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Severn Trent, and we’ll reward you for it too. We have a range of benefits that recognize great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. Here are some of the perks you’ll enjoy:
1. 25 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/sell up to 5 days per year).
