Job Description:
We are recruiting for a Maintenance Craftsperson (Vehicle Mechanic) to be based at our Fleet Workshop facility at the Borders General Hospital, Melrose. The successful candidate may also be required to work from other Scottish Ambulance Service Workshops, on occasions, and will be part of a highly skilled and dedicated team reporting to the Workshop Chargehand.

The successful candidate will:
* Be a Vehicle Mechanic with experience in the maintenance and repair of cars and light commercial vehicles
* Have worked in a vehicle workshop environment for several years, be qualified to a minimum of NVQ Level 2 (or comparable qualification) or equivalent experience, which will have been gained in a vehicle workshop
* Hold a full driving licence with C1 entitlement (or attain prior to appointment)
* Have experience operating in a demanding working environment with health and safety at the forefront of our operation
* Be confident in delivering a high-quality vehicle and equipment support, with a minimum of supervision, to our front-line colleagues throughout the East Region
* Have experience of electrical and tail lift repairs (advantageous)
* Be familiar with the use of internet and e-mail
This is a full-time position working 08:00 - 16:00, 37 hours Monday to Friday. You may be asked to work at another workshop with a different shift pattern. You will also be required to undertake occasional overtime and public holiday working, both paid at the appropriate enhanced rate.
Shifts and working hours may be subject to change due to the introduction of a reduced working week of 36 hours in April 2026.
