Job Purpose Reporting to the Group Head of Technical and the Process Manager, the Process Technologist is responsible for collecting, processing, recording and maintaining all relevant data to provide information, targets, KPIs, standards and processes to operation team and document compliance with all Food Safety and Health and Safety related standards and laws. To work closely with Production Management Team, NPD, and supply chain to provide bespoke services. There may be on occasions the requirement to cover some of the responsibilities of QA technician as and when the business needs require. The Role covers all production hours with shift and work patterns and requires a degree of flexibility which may require on occasion additional hours or different shift patterns to be worked, which will wherever possible be agreed prior of the event with the Process Manager. The purpose of the role is to ensure the highest quality of products and compliance with food safety and legal standards throughout the production process. Duties include but are not limited to: • Carry out effective transition of the process, products from innovation to dispatch providing guidance to all areas of the business. o Creating recipe cards for all new products and mixes. o Carry out production trials and collate information on a trial report. o Work with Goods Inwards and Procurement to ensure new raw materials are onsite ahead of trials taking place. o Ensure the red zone is created for trials prior to the day. o Carry out organoleptics for any NPD/ EPD products. o Ensure new RM and finished products are sent for shelf-life reports. o Ensure finished products are sent for nutritional reports. o Ensure WIPS labels are created and available for any new mixes prior to trial. o Ensure WIPS labels, red zone/ online standards, recipe cards are completed and available for launch. o Customer QAS’s are completed from trials and are signed by customer prior to launch. • Learn, understand and challenge limitations of the equipment, systems, materials to allow effective change processes • Carry out Validation and monitoring systems for all new processes in line with food safety Standards o Validating any changes to new processes, a minimum of 2 validations are required and reports must be written up before. • Carry out validation implementation of changes to the current processes. o Validating any changes to current processes, a minimum of 2 validations and Report must be written up before any change for example changes to defrost process, cooldown process, etc. o Review processes and check for suitability if there are complaints regarding quality, weights, etc. • Carry out Validation of the processes for the introduction of the new product, and ingredients, as well as embedding the controls within production o Ensure shelf-life validations for new raw materials, new mixes, new finished products. A minimum of 2 validated shelf-life where possible. The report must be written up before the product launch. o Ensure organoleptics are completed for the finished product. A minimum of 2 validated organoleptics where possible. The report must be written up before the product launch. • Provide training to all teams for new and amended processes to provide knowledge, awareness, and progress opportunities. o Any communications from customers about product-like quality, etc. o Training out any process changes, etc. • Completion of all relevant internal KPIs as agreed with Process Manager. • Providing updates to relevant technical documentation driven by existing process changes and improvements. o Updating recipe cards for existing products and mixes o Ensure red zone is updated with correct changes and ensure clear communication to all relevant departments. • Establish effective ways of working at each stage of processing for all departments. o Attend all NPD meetings. o Arrange any pre-launch meetings. o Arrange any pre-trial meetings with the relevant departments 2 days prior to the trials commencing to confirm roles and responsibilities that are required from each department. o Provide a weekly summary of any trials to include what went well, what we need to improve for next time and any other relevant information regarding the trials. • Completion of Internal Audits within the provided scope and time. • Management of all relevant documentation (reviewing, recording, training, amending, creating) o Keep the recipe card matrix (within the spec matrix) updated with any new and updated recipe cards. o Ensuring WIP labels for all mixes are created and updated. Decision making Decision-making will generally be referred through the Process Manager however the individual will be responsible for communicating any information required through the Process Manager first to ensure customer responses and communication are consistent and correct relating to finished product specifications and labelling.
