Applications are invited for an NHS Locum Consultant at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a 12-month fixed term position.
This post has arisen due to a retirement as well as a desire from the Trust to strengthen its Critical Care service. The post will suit a motivated applicant who wishes to join a team who are dedicated to developing the critical care service, as we progress with our new hospital programme, and aim to meet the needs of an expanding service.
The current Consultant team are a cohesive group with a diverse range of interests (including global health, palliative care, Critical Care airway management, and regional major incident management). Future colleagues of all backgrounds are welcome to make enquiries to discuss how their own interests might fit within this flexible and supportive team.
There is opportunity for those candidates who have a subspecialty interest to have a substantial commitment to their partner specialty. For single specialty candidates, the department will either support a full-time Critical Care job plan or offer clinical sessions in an area of subspecialty interest. Alternatively, applications from individuals who wish to pursue a less than full time post to facilitate personal circumstance (or clinical activity in tertiary care for example) are encouraged and will be considered.
The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a LTP.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be responsible for providing comprehensive clinical management for critically ill patients in the Critical Care unit and beyond. They will work their daytime duties in Critical Care (and associated specialty/subspecialty as applicable) within their job plan.
The Consultant role requires interaction across multiple disciplines and collaborative working. The expectation of the role is that the appointed candidate can offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective within critical care.
The successful candidate will join the existing team of substantive Critical Care Consultants and provide medical cover for a modern 11 bedded Critical Care Unit (combined intensive care and high dependency unit with ability to flex to 18 beds in times of clinical need) in a trust that is in the early phases of an extensive estate renewal programme (part of the New Hospitals Programme).
On-call responsibilities will be undertaken within critical care only, initially on a 1:8 basis as part of job planned activity. There are plans in place to sustainably recruit to additional Critical Care posts over time to reduce the frequency of on-call commitments with a target on-call frequency of 1:10.
The contract will be for 10 programmed activities (PAs) which will be split between Critical Care and the associated specialty.
