What skills and experience we're looking for
We are looking for a Caretaker to join our team, you will work under the guidance of our Site Manager to ensure our school is a safe place for pupils to learn and staff to work.
We have two school sites, one at Airy Hill in Whitby and the other at Prospect Hill in Whitby. Our school is maintained by a team of site staff including a Site Manager, Senior Caretaker, Groundsman, and two Caretakers (one part-time who is also a cleaning supervisor for our Airy Hill Site).
As our new caretaker you will be working across our two sites and will need to be flexible in your working hours and duties.
You will work closely with our Site Manager to get a full induction, also including manual handling and other health and safety courses, such as legionella and asbestos awareness.
Key Duties:
• Grounds: Routine maintenance, setting up playing surfaces, safe equipment use, report defects, drive vehicles, assist with equipment maintenance.
• Security: Check premises security, lock/unlock gates and doors, control lights, secure broken windows/doors.
• Outside Areas: Clean areas, dispose of rubbish, clear snow, apply salt/grit.
• Buildings: Identify faults, minor repairs, re-decoration, set up equipment, supervise lettings, report energy/resource wastage.
• Monitoring Systems: Legionella testing, monitor energy usage, fire and burglar alarms.
• Porterage: Set up/put away furniture, move equipment and supplies.
• Maintenance: Routine maintenance and repairs.
• Cleaning: Clean drains, gullies, grease traps, handle emergencies, clean outside contractor scope, maintain visible signs.
Experience and skills:
• Completion of recognised manual handling training.
• Experience of performing basic maintenance tasks including the use of basic maintenance tools.
• Able to use relevant technology, hand tools, equipment and resources effectively to undertake the duties stated in the job description.
• Able to work under own initiative and unsupervised.
• Able to follow instructions from the line manager with good attention to detail
