Your role and responsibilities IBM is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Linux Engineer to join our team on a significant public sector project. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of Linux systems, with a proven track record in managing, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex Linux environments. This role requires a professional who can effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, exhibit strong problem-solving skills, and demonstrate a commitment to security and compliance requirements inherent to public sector projects. Required technical and professional expertise - Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performance Linux infrastructures. - Lead in-depth system analyses, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex technical issues. - Collaborate with system administrators, network engineers, and other stakeholders to optimize system performance and enhance security. - Develop and enforce best practice guidelines for Linux system administration and security. - Oversee and guide junior engineers, providing mentorship and technical training as needed. - Conduct regular system audits to ensure adherence to security standards and compliance regulations. - Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending improvements to the current infrastructure. - Participate in on-call rotation for critical system support and issue resolution outside normal business hours. Preferred technical and professional experience - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent years of experience in the industry. - Hands-on experience in a Linux system engineering role. - Expertise in at least two of the following distributions: Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, or SUSE. - Proven experience in automating tasks using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl. - In-depth understanding of network protocols, services, and standards including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NTP, and SSH. - Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM) and containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes). - Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef. - Comprehensive understanding of storage solutions including NFS, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel. - Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, IBM Cloud) is a plus. - Possess relevant certifications such as RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer), RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator), or Linux from CompTIA. Additional certifications in cloud platforms or security domains would be beneficial. - Experience working in a public sector environment. - Knowledge of IBM's public sector projects and related technologies. - Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Excellent problem-solving abilities and a customer-centric approach.
