Employment Advisor

£21.28 per hour
Our client is looking for an experienced Employment Advisor.
The Employment Advisor will work with Haringey residents furthest from the job market to provide information, introductions, advice, guidance to support residents into good work in line with Opportunity Haringey.
Ths will be achieved through group work as well as one to one interactions with residents.
1. Initiate conversations with residents around their employment goals, gaining an understanding of their potential barriers to employment and how Haringey Works can support them in achieving Good Work.
2. Provide one to one employment support to residents both those unemployed and those seeking to progress within employment working towards the Council priority of ensuring all residents benefit from good economic growth
3. Engage in outreach activities to provide employability support.
4. Provide information, introductions, advice, guidance in community settings. Be guided by the resident to ensure support is ‘done with’ not ‘done to’
5. Where appropriate achieve a progression of employment; out of zero hours, out of temporary contract status or higher fixed salary.
6. Maintain administrative records and ensure that proper case records and case management systems are maintained in accordance with any funding partners requirements in a timely manner
7. Build a good understanding of borough wide services and networks to help support people to access appropriate resources and maximise opportunities
8. Maintain strong relationships with multi-disciplinary teams and other organisations, working collaboratively to support residents to achieve their best outcomes and live their version of a good life and to progress service and Council priorities
Knowledge
1. Knowledge of current recruitment practices
2. Detailed knowledge of local employment, training and public health services available to residents
3. Understanding of Welfare Benefit rules and how these affect unemployed, disabled people with health and social care needs and/ or mental ill health conditions, returning to work. Also, an understanding of in-work benefits;
4. Good understanding of the barriers preventing residents from engaging with support linked to employment, education and training;
5. Good understanding of the political environment of local government;
6. Understanding of equalities and diversity issues in the context of regeneration projects and their implications for local government;
Experience
7. Experience of supporting people from disadvantaged communities, and/or with complex needs and constraints;
8. Experience of working in a solutions-focussed person-centred way and able to assess suitability of provision from an asset-based approach.
9. Experience of equalities issues
Skills
10. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) including good inter-personal skills to work effectively with residents and a range of stakeholders;
11. Proven track record of working in a target-driven environment and successfully exceeding targets
12. Proven experience of managing complex workload effectively and balancing competing priorities.
13. Ability to provide a sensitive and professional support service to vulnerable people;
14. Ability to work remotely from main team and base;
15. Ability to use IT applications and to be self-servicing in respect of word, processing, spreadsheets, email and the internet
