Lead Design / Development Engineer

Job Type: Full-time, permanent
Salary: £40,000 - £55,000 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
We are seeking a Lead Design / Development Engineer with expertise in mechanical engineering. This role is crucial for the development and optimisation of cutting-edge products for critical applications, ensuring they meet the high standards of performance, reliability, and safety required.
Day-to-Day of the Lead Design / Development Engineer Role:
1. Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and guide best practices in mechanical design, material selection, and testing methods.
2. Lead design reviews and collaborate with cross-functional teams to tackle complex engineering challenges.
3. Support the Sales team by contributing to new engineering opportunities.
4. Oversee NPI gate stages from concept to handover to manufacturing, ensuring timely delivery of Engineering Revenue through effective project management.
5. Contribute to the strategic development of new products and create marketing literature for new and existing products.
6. Maintain manufacturing documentation using ERP systems and ensure configuration control for drawings and manufacturing documentation.
Required Skills & Qualifications of the Lead Design / Development Engineer:
1. Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is preferred.
2. Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
3. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or Pro/Engineer) and FEA tools.
4. Strong understanding of project management methodologies.
