An opportunity for a Mot Tester/Light Goods Vehicle Technician has arisen with the local authorities on a 3 Month contract Pay Rate: £18.00 Per Hour (PAYE) plus Holiday pay. Location: ST1 6QN Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 09:00 AM - 5:30 PM Job Purpose: Undertake the full range of repair, maintenance, and servicing of the Council's operational fleet of vehicles, plant, trailers, and equipment by Council policies and procedures, legislative requirements, and manufacturer standards. Key Responsibilities: Undertake the full range of repair, maintenance and servicing to external customers' vehicles by Council policies and procedures, legislative requirements, and manufacturers' standards. To prepare and carry out MOT testing on class 4, 5 and 7 vehicles and suitability testing on Hackney Carriages and Private Hire Taxis. Improve and maintain high standards of housekeeping within the workshop facility. Substantial responsibility for ensuring the safety and roadworthiness of the Council's operational fleet of vehicles, plant, trailers and equipment. Substantial responsibility for ensuring the safety and roadworthiness of external customers' vehicles. The post works mainly within the workshops, however, there may be some work at the roadside in response to breakdowns. The role is subject to physical effort in a working environment that can have disagreeable conditions. Participate in all Health & Safety related, manufacturer vehicle, plant, trailer and equipment-recommended training. Carry out repairs and preventative maintenance by the laid down manufacturer's specification, including fault finding and diagnostic testing to vehicles, plants, trailers, equipment, electrics, hydraulics and pneumatics powered by gas, diesel oil, petrol or electricity together with associated equipment. There is a requirement for ongoing regular creative and innovative thinking in the resolution of problems or issues. Carry out repairs including fault finding and diagnostic testing to all vehicles, plants, trailers, equipment, electrics, hydraulics and pneumatics. Carry out repairs and modifications to vehicles' bodywork, including general panel beating, engineering fabrication, design, redesign and installation. Carry out servicing to Council and or external customers vehicles, plant, trailers and equipment. Complete general welding (gas, electric) brazing and soldering as necessary. Complete repairs using workshop tools and equipment including general bench work. Complete LOLER inspections and testing by legislative requirements. Key Requirements: Be a time-served technician with significant experience or hold an appropriate NVQ Level 3 qualification. Hold a DVSA-recognised Certificate for classes 4, 5 and 7 or be willing to take one within the first 12 months Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of M.O.T. Testing, standards and procedures. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of Light Goods Vehicle maintenance and repair.r Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of all Health & Safety Legislation and City Council Policies, and ensure adherence to a safe working environment and safe working practices.
