Job Description Are you our new Head of Permanent Way ? We are seeking a full-time experienced Permanent Way Engineer to contribute to the innovative design solutions of our Rail Systems department. You must have experience in P/Way design engineering and a degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant qualification. This position can be worked from any of our UK offices with required travel. Our Rail teams are located in London, Birmingham, Southampton, Frome, and Leeds. You will join our UK Rail Systems department As our new Permanent Way Lead, you will drive the growth and delivery of our Permanent Way projects, ensuring technical excellence and operational performance. You will initially grow our UK PWay portfolio by leveraging global resources and our strategic supply chain, and be supported to grow a UK-based team. Your key tasks and responsibilities will be: Lead the development of the UK based PWay team, utilizing global resources as needed. Act as PWay Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) or Project Engineer (PE) as required. Ensure design/construction personnel have the correct competencies. Manage PWay engineering activities on projects to meet safety, cost, and quality standards. Ensure design and construction elements comply with current legislation. Provide advice on construction activities, including testing and commissioning. Assist in developing a culture of technical excellence. Prepare Tenders and proposals. Check, review, and approve design according to the Design Delivery program. Key Deliverables for the first 12 months: Identify and secure work package pipeline. Develop the UK PWay team to meet pipeline demands. Your starting point for constant growth Degree/HNC with strong experience required. Understanding of independent work assessment arrangements. Competency in CDM, CSM-RA, risk assessment, and engineering management. Experience in people management. Familiarity with RSSB Group, Network Rail standards. Experience in project development for PWay and NR approval processes. Current or past CRE status or equivalent experience. Membership of the Permanent Way Institution desired. Personal qualities include being self-motivated and collaborative, with ownership of tasks.
