Rotherwood Education are looking to appoint a Personal Development Officer for a well-established College in the heart of Lancashire. The hours of the role will be part-time Tuesday 8:30-4:30, Wednesday 8:30-4:30, and Thursday 8:30-4:30 and is to start ASAP.
The role requirements will entail:
1. Report into the Safeguarding and Prevent Manager and under their guidance, develop positive relationships with students to enhance their personal development, behaviour and attitudes enabling them to build positive characteristics and be respectful, responsible, and active citizens.
2. Positively educate, intervene, and deescalate student behaviour maintaining a calm and safe environment throughout the campus.
3. Work alongside curriculum colleagues to ensure a consistent approach to the college's behaviour strategy.
4. Promote and support the college health and wellbeing offer, working alongside the Health and Wellbeing Officer to provide developmental activities for students that will enable them to build resilience.
5. Notify the college security team of potential campus security problems.
6. Actively promote an inclusive environment that meets all learners' needs.
7. Make appropriate referrals to internal support staff such as Safeguarding, College Nurse, Health and Wellbeing, Additional Learning Support, and Curriculum Staff.
8. Maintain accurate records of interventions/incidents, such as behavioural and pastoral using college IT systems.
9. Work as part of a cross-college team to provide first aid to staff, students, and visitors.
10. Undertake mandatory training and contribute to the college continuous and professional development programme as requested, supporting with the cascading of personal development, behaviour, and attitude-related messaging.
Person specification:
1. Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to relate to and empathise with a broad range of students of different ages, from different backgrounds and cultures. Tactfully prevent or calm disruptive behaviour and deal fairly but firmly with people if they do not comply with reasonable requests.
2. Good IT, organisational, and administration skills.
3. Display initiative, be positive, and enthusiastic.
4. Demonstrate a commitment to equality and diversity, customer service, and quality assurance.
5. Demonstrate a commitment to the process of continuous review and improvement.
6. Suitability to work with children, young people, and/or vulnerable adults.
7. Flexible approach to working times in line with the College (attendance at Open Events, Parents' Evenings, etc., as required).
