As a Transport Planner, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our vehicle fleet. Your responsibilities include scheduling repairs and maintenance, managing fleet paperwork for hazardous and non-hazardous waste, and supporting day-to-day logistics.
We’re looking for someone who thrives under pressure, possesses excellent IT and numeracy skills, and ideally has at least two years' experience managing a fleet of 10+ HGVs, including artics, hooklifts, and tankers.
The transport office operates between 6:30am - 5pm. Your working day will be 8.5 hours with a 30-minute lunch. Initial hours are 7:30am - 4pm, with flexibility for holiday cover and possible overtime.
Your Core Responsibilities:
Training will be provided where necessary.
1. Assist in the day-to-day management of the company’s vehicle fleet, ensuring compliance and smooth operations.
2. Issue accurate paperwork for hazardous and non-hazardous waste collections.
3. Create labels for hazardous waste loads in line with regulatory requirements.
4. Prepare and process hazardous waste documentation, including Waste Declarations, Pre-Acceptance, and Acceptance records.
5. Confirm job bookings with customers via phone and email, and log these jobs using the Transport Routing Planning System.
6. Answer incoming calls, book transport jobs, and assist both internal and external customers with queries or issues.
7. Support adherence to DVSA best practices for vehicle and trailer servicing and maintenance.
8. Perform detailed checks on driver worksheets, transport routing schedules, consignment notes, and duty of care documentation, following up on missing information.
9. Assist with coordinating waste bookings at third-party facilities.
10. Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Transport Manager or Directors.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong IT and numeracy skills.
* Confident communicator and well-organized.
* Able to multitask and remain calm under pressure.
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing a fleet of at least 10 HGVs.
* Knowledge of tachograph regulations and the Working Time Directive (preferred).
* Strong geographical knowledge of the UK.
* Able to work independently and as part of a team.
* CPC National qualification (advantageous).
* DGSA qualification (advantageous).
