Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Pharmacist in surgery to join our modern purpose-built facilities at ESNEFT. This key position will allow a committed and self-motivated Pharmacist to lead our Pharmacy services to surgical patients on our Colchester site.
You will be a fully established member of the multi-disciplinary team within surgery but with an opportunity to develop and establish the pharmacy service to the urology and vascular surgical specialty. You will be pivotal in developing our clinical service within the speciality and will have responsibility for the provision of Pharmacy parenteral nutrition services including the opportunity to be a part of the multidisciplinary team.

We are also offering this exciting post to established and experienced Band 7 Pharmacists with the opportunity to develop toward a Band 8a level over a fixed period.
ESNEFT is about to embark on a full Trust wide implementation of the Epic electronic patient record which includes electronic prescribing and administration and pharmacy stock control system replacement.
In addition to our fully automated dispensaries, we host one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and a brand new aseptic facility.
Main duties of the job
* Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure medicines optimisation strategies are embedded as part of the surgery practice; minimising drug wastage and managing the use of high-cost medicines accordingly.
* Provide an advanced level clinical pharmacy service to surgical patients in line with the pharmacy Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and agreed clinical standards.
* Provide ongoing clinical support and guidance to pharmacy colleagues contributing to the clinical pharmacy service within surgery.
* Develop clinical pharmacy input into Surgical Services, specifically to urology and vascular patients, and provide departmental leadership into this speciality.
* Be the lead clinical pharmacist in the provision of parenteral nutrition services, in accordance with local and national standards and strategy.
* Oversee and support the implementation of the Trust's Weight Management service for bariatric surgery.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Masters Degree in Pharmacy plus Pre-registration training or equivalent
* GPhC registered
* Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice or clinical equivalent
Experience
* Previous extensive hospital experience inclusive of Clinical Pharmacy practice
* Demonstrated experience of multi-disciplinary working
* Handling of high risk medicines
* Previous experience of educating and training other staff
* Previous experience of working with Surgical patients
* Previous experience of working with Parenteral Nutrition services
Knowledge
* Clinical knowledge of issues relevant to surgical patients gained through training & experience
* Good all-round clinical knowledge in other areas and practical skills
* Knowledge of issues involved during the pre-admission process
* Basic understanding of clinical issues relating to theatre practice
