Job Title: Technical Manager
Location: Hull (On-Site)
Salary: £55,000 - £67,000
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Some flexibility available)
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly driven Technical Manager to join a growing SME food manufacturing business in Hull. This is a hands-on role with the opportunity to implement change, lead key projects, and shape the technical function as the company scales from £15 million to over £20 million turnover in the next year.
You will lead a small but expanding team, overseeing two QA professionals, a QA Manager, and a Specification Technologist. Working closely with the NPD Manager, you will help bridge the gap between quality, production, and new product development, ensuring compliance and technical excellence in a fast-paced environment.
This is a big role with a lot of responsibility, offering an exciting challenge for someone who wants to make a real impact, drive improvements, and develop the function to their vision.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop the technical team, ensuring strong quality and food safety culture across the site.

Work closely with QA, NPD, and production teams to ensure smooth product launches and compliance with food safety standards.

Maintain and improve BRCGS accreditation and retailer standards, ensuring best practices across the site.

Investigate customer complaints, non-conformances, and quality issues, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
*
Oversee HACCP, TACCP, and VACCP processes, ensuring they are effectively managed and up to date.

Develop and deliver training programs to upskill the technical and production teams.
*
Collaborate with suppliers and customers to ensure high standards in raw materials, finished products, and processes.

Identify opportunities for efficiency, cost savings, and process improvements while maintaining quality and compliance.

Play a key role in site expansion projects, ensuring technical and quality requirements align with business growth.
What We’re Looking For
*
Proven experience in a Technical Manager role (or similar) within food manufacturing.
*
Strong knowledge of BRCGS, retailer standards, HACCP, and food safety legislation.
*
Experience leading a technical/QA team in an SME or fast-paced manufacturing environment.
*
Ability to drive change, implement new processes, and work collaboratively across departments.

Confident communicator with the ability to engage teams and influence senior stakeholders.
*
A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a passion for food safety and quality.
*
Degree or equivalent qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
