The post holder will help facilitate the delivery of the University of Bristol and Peninsula undergraduate medical curricula to year 3 and 4 medical students at Musgrove Park Hospital. In summary the main duties include: Delivering core curriculum content, act as tutors and be involved with the assessment of medical students, for example in OSCEs. Case based Learning Facilitation, lecture based, seminar, clinical skills teaching and SIM training. Acting as a role model and mentor to the medical students. Develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches with guidance eg bedside teaching. Identify learning needs of students and define appropriate learning objectives. Clinical teaching fellow are expected to be able to deliver several types of teaching including induction sessions, small group tutorials, clinical-based history and examination sessions, facilitation of inter-Academy Hub sessions, Bedside teaching, Clinical reasoning skills and simulation based teaching. Supervise the work of students, provide advice on study skills and help them with learning problems. Act as a mentor for students. Take an informal role in student pastoral care such as identification of "at risk" students, offering support and referral to appropriate sources of help. Support other clinical education fellows and mentor as appropriate. Somerset NHS Foundation Trust has an active Academy which coordinates medical education for all undergraduate and postgraduate trainees. Teaching rooms include small group tutorial rooms, teaching rooms, clinical teaching rooms and a simulation suite all with full IT facilities including video link to enable the teaching/education process. There is a well-stocked library with full time librarians and excellent IT facilities. There is support for simulation training from the simulation team with access to modern simulation equipment. Clinical Duties of the Post On average half of the working week will be clinical, the other half devoted to teaching of Bristol and Peninsula Medical Students and educational learning, as well as working towards a Certificate in Medical Education. The weekly clinical programme will vary depending on the on-call rota and availability of other junior staff, but should broadly include: On call duties in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology When not on call and not teaching, there will be a programme to include time in theatre, Gynaecology and Antenatal outpatient clinics. You will be encouraged to participate in audit, health improvement and research projects in the department with a view to publications and presentation.
