About the role:
We are currently seeking an Apprenticeships Functional Skills Tutor to join our Apprenticeships department at The Bedford College group.
As an Apprenticeships Functional Skills Tutor, you play an important role in the success of our students through:
* Preparing, delivering and assessing level 1 and level 2 functional skills English and Mathematics.
* Supporting and guiding students to achieve success and realise their potential.
* Managing students' learning and providing a high-quality learning experience.
* Contributing pro-actively to developments in curriculum development and innovating teaching.
* Teaching effectively on a range of programmes, levels and qualification types recognising and meeting students' individual needs.
* Preparing schemes of work which are up to date and fully meet the requirements of awarding bodies.
* Researching, developing and effectively implementing new learning materials in a variety of media to engage students in learning.
* Assessing students' work effectively to meet awarding body standards and carry out verification and moderation.
* Monitoring and recording students' progress and taking action to ensure students meet required standards and deadlines.
* Preparing a variety of reports and maintaining records on students' progress and performance.
* Embedding the students' learning experience through developing and implementing appropriate vocational opportunities e.g. links with the apprenticeship, real-life situations, employers, work related opportunities.
* Leading curriculum development and organising the contribution of other members of teaching staff as appropriate.
* Being a designated tutor and providing student support.
* Acting as a subject specialist mentor to new teaching staff as part of the induction process.
* Being responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and for raising any concerns in line with college procedures.
* Being responsible for promoting equality and diversity in line with college procedures.
* Being responsible for following health and safety requirements in line with college policy and procedures.
* Participating proactively in training and development including qualification development required in the job role.
About you:
* Hold a relevant degree and/or level 3 qualifications in English and Mathematics
* Hold a certificate in Education/PGCE or equivalent
* Have recent experience of teaching and assessing functional skills English and Mathematics courses
* Have knowledge of the current developments in own specialist area
* Possess the ability to demonstrate excellent classroom management
* Possess the ability to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and work effectively to deadlines
* Be willing continuously to update skills and knowledge
* Have awareness of health and safety requirements relevant to the job
* Possess the ability to demonstrate commitment to own continuing professional development
