Job overview
The Community Paediatric Department forms part of the Women’s & Children’s Division of the Trust and provides a service to children from birth up to age 19. We have a team of Community Paediatricians and Specialist Nurses, supported by administrative and clinic support staff. The department is based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe and at Wharton Healthcare Centre in Winsford. We currently have a vacancy for a medical secretary, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00. While the post is based primarily at Leighton Hospital, service needs may require you to work at our Wharton base from time to time.
Main duties of the job
This is a demanding role which requires excellent organisational skills. Candidates will be expected to manage doctors’ and nurses’ caseloads and diaries, outpatient waiting lists, schedule appointments, and arrange medical sessions in community clinics throughout the area. The post involves considerable audio typing, and the successful candidate will need excellent audio typing skills.

Applicants should be highly motivated and have the ability to work on their own initiative, but also be happy to work as part of a team. Previous secretarial experience is essential, as is a calm, methodical approach to the job. Considerable liaison with other departments and agencies, and with parents or carers, is an integral part of the role, and good communication skills are vital.
