Location: Taunton

Type: Contract (long-term)
Hours: Full time, 8.30am - 3.30pm Mon-Fri

Elementa are recruiting for an SEMH/SCLN Learning Support Assistant for this Special Provision in Taunton, that caters for children age 11-16. The children who attend the academy will have an EHCP to support their SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health) and SCL (Speech Communication Language) needs. Your role will be to support the teaching staff in providing a high-quality provision for all young people.
This can be a difficult place to work, with some children having challenging behaviour, that would need a level of experience to deal with the day-to-day challenges this role may bring. Previous experience of working in a specialist provision or similar would be essential.
Due to the levels of support required by the school, a DBS on the update service would be needed, as we cannot account for the delays in processing a new DBS, as this could impact on start dates, and therefore impact staffing levels.
You will be a role model for the young children, providing effective educational support for staff and children within the provision. Key duties within the role include:
* Providing academic and pastoral support to students to enable them to overcome any barriers to achievement.
* Liaising with teaching staff to help plan and develop appropriate resources.
* Liaising with support staff and teachers to share strategies for support.
* Working as part of the team that responds to challenging behaviour.
* Providing information, advice, and structured support to enable students to make positive choices about their behaviour, attendance, and social interactions.
* Assisting in developing strong links between the school and families to improve educational opportunities for students.
* Complying with confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.
* Contributing to the monitoring, recording, and analysis of the welfare and daily experiences of our young people.
* Modelling high standards and participating in a culture of sharing good practice amongst all staff.
* Contributing to the system of whole school rewards.
* Supporting young people to develop a wider educational, social, and cultural understanding of life.
* Monitoring the individual health needs of young people and communicating those needs to other staff as appropriate.

This includes full vetting & background checks and application for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure (which may be chargeable at GBP52) unless you have a current Enhanced DBS subscribed to the update service.
If you have the relevant skills and experience necessary for this role, then please apply with your full up-to-date CV.
