Therapy Technical Instructor - Acute and Emergency Medicine Team

The established Acute & Emergency Medicine team at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital are looking to appoint a highly motivated Band 3 Therapy Technical Instructor (TI). This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 2 TI considering progression or a current Band 3 TI. We are a seven day, extended hour service with the possibility of flexible working. The successful candidate will join a supportive team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Technical instructors working across the fast paced environment of the acute units.
A range of rotations are offered as part of the role, including:
* Emergency Department (ED), rated as good by the CQC and undergoing redevelopment to become a local trauma centre
* Emergency Assessment Units (EAU) and Medical Short Stay Units (MSS) offering fast paced, quick decision making environments ensuring patient safety
* A well-established Frailty unit with opportunities to run enhanced therapy including gardening, exercise groups etc.
You will be supported by members of the team day to day. Promotion of personal development is offered via supervision, training and enhanced CPD opportunities.
The post holder is required to demonstrate the Trust values, responsibilities of the job description and personal specification. You should have proven experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
Main duties of the job
* To undertake specific skilled support work to aid the rehabilitation of patients as delegated by the Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist
* To accept patients referred by the Multi-disciplinary Team and relay all necessary information to the therapists to allow timely interventions.
* To accept patients referred by a qualified Therapist, treat them according to set treatment protocols, monitor progression and make alterations, within agreed parameters.
* Work is not always directly supervised but is evaluated and monitored daily. Access to qualified staff is always available if required. Patients progress to be reported back on a timely basis.
* To assist in the administration and clerical duties of the team.
* To develop and maintain competencies through Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Education to GCSE standard or equivalent to include grade C in English
* NVQ level 3 or equivalent
Experience
* Experience as Therapy Assistant within relevant speciality or equivalent relevant experience within a similar field.
* Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of manual handling
* Experience in an acute hospital
* Experience in running group sessions
* Working with people with Dementia
* Healthcare experience with transferable skills to a therapy role.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of issues of confidentiality within the healthcare environment
* Working knowledge of a range of common illnesses, injuries and conditions relevant to the specific area of work
* Understanding of quality issues and their implications for services, including clinical audit

* Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills
