The role
The College group are now seeking a Specialist Learning Mentor (ASC), to be based at their campus in Warwick to support students in classes with Autism Spectrum Condition and other special educational needs.
Hours: 37 hours a week
You will take responsibility for:
* Supporting students in-class or through 1:1 mentoring sessions, promoting independence and progress towards their Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) goals.
* Providing tailored support in the classroom and mentoring outside the classroom, as directed by the SEN Team Leader / ASC Specialist Support Lead.
* Assisting in the planning and completion of EHCP Annual Reviews, liaising with parents, and working closely with tutors and support leads.
* Collaborating with lecturers to prepare and adapt learning materials, ensuring accessibility for individual needs.
* Promoting the use of assistive technologies to encourage independent learning and skill development.
* Acting as a key contact for designated students, monitoring their progress and providing updates through reviews and ProMonitor records.
* Providing exam support, including invigilation or acting as a reader, scribe, or prompt, and accompanying students on trips or work placements as needed.
What you need
It is ESSENTIAL for the successful candidate to have the following:
* GCSEs or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English (Grade A-C).
* Level 2 or above qualification relevant to specific learning difficulties
* Prior experience in supporting young people with learning difficulties, ideally with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
* Experience in working with learners on a 1-2-1 basis.
* A good level of understand of Educational Healthcare Plans (EHPs) and SEND Code of practice.
* An Enhanced DBS dated within the last 12 months is required for this role.
Other DESIRABLE skills include:
* Previous experience working as a support mentor or similar role in a college/higher education setting
* A qualification specific to Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) would be highly advantageous
