Lead Cloud Architect

Overview:
We are seeking a Lead Cloud Architect to take charge of designing, implementing, and optimising scalable private cloud platforms. This role requires a hands-on leader with deep technical expertise in Linux, KVM, and automation tools, as well as a strong understanding of private cloud infrastructure.
As a leader, you will shape the future of our cloud platforms, mentor team members, and ensure that our infrastructure remains secure, scalable, and innovative. While knowledge of OpenStack is desirable, it is not mandatory. Instead, we are focused on candidates with transferable skills who bring a collaborative mindset and the ability to deliver in a highly technical environment.
This position offers the flexibility of working fully remotely anywhere in the UK. Successful candidates must undergo relevant Security Clearance checks and therefore must have 5 consecutive years stay in the UK.

About You:
You are a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of Linux/Unix systems and extensive experience in designing and managing private cloud environments. Your expertise in virtualisation technologies, particularly KVM, and your ability to configure and manage bare-metal provisioning tools such as Canonical MAAS, make you an exceptional leader in this field. You excel at automating workflows using tools like Terraform and Ansible, and your scripting skills in Python, Bash, or Go allow you to streamline complex processes effectively.
Your strong grasp of networking concepts, security protocols, and infrastructure optimisation sets you apart as someone who ensures stability and scalability across cloud platforms. While knowledge of OpenStack is highly desirable, you have the versatility to succeed without it, leveraging your broader cloud and infrastructure experience.

About the Team:
This is a brand-new team that will be responsible for building out and maintaining world-class private clouds in private data centres across the UK and Europe. As the first member of this function, you will have the opportunity to shape the direction and culture of the team.
About the Role:
As Lead Cloud Architect, you will:
* Take ownership of designing, deploying, and managing robust private cloud platforms.
* Provide technical leadership, mentoring team members, and setting best practices for cloud architecture.
* Configure and manage KVM, virtualization environments, and bare-metal provisioning tools.
* Drive automation efforts with tools like Terraform, Ansible, and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Go.
* Ensure the security, scalability, and stability of cloud systems, implementing cutting-edge solutions to meet future demands.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline cloud operations and improve deployment tools.
* Stay informed on industry trends, integrating innovative technologies into the cloud infrastructure strategy.
What We are Looking for:
* Essential Skills:
o Extensive expertise in Linux/Unix system administration.
o Advanced experience with KVM, virtualisation technologies, and bare-metal provisioning tools (e.g., Canonical MAAS).
o Strong proficiency in automation tools like Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent.
o High-level scripting skills in Python, Bash, or Go.
o Deep understanding of networking concepts, security protocols, and infrastructure optimisation.
* Nice-to-Have Skills:
o Familiarity with OpenStack components (desirable but not required).
o Experience with cloud storage solutions, such as Ceph.
o Exposure to DevOps methodologies and CI/CD pipelines.
* Other Considerations:
o Candidates requiring visa sponsorship who are already residing in the UK and nearing five years of residency are encouraged to apply.
