Main duties of the job
Assess, diagnose and manage the ongoing primary care of patients with at risk foot health status (deficiencies in circulatory and neurological supplies and reduced tissue viability); patients with painful gait anomalies (through biomechanical assessment and the prescription/manufacture of appropriate orthoses) and patients with onychocryptosis (through the use of local anaesthetics and surgery).
Manage an identified caseload of patients and undertake all associated communication and liaison with other health care professionals.

Job responsibilities
To manage a specialist community caseload, demonstrating skills in current assessment techniques (including use of neurothesiometers, monofilaments, Doppler etc.) and evidence-based treatment of biomechanical pathologies, at risk patients (including wound care) and nail surgery.
The post holder is expected to identify the local need for podiatry services, evaluate priorities and deliver care accordingly, managing capacity and demand within contractual agreements.
To work in partnership with patients and other service users and communicate effectively to meet the needs of the recipient in maximizing their understanding of information about their (foot) health. To empathetically convey potentially distressing information.
To maintain standards of professional practice through a programme of continuing professional development (CPD); identify, implement and review a personal development plan.
Person Specification
Experience
* Specialist wound care knowledge in treating and managing the high risk and ulcerated foot.
Qualifications
* BSc Podiatry (or equivalent e.g. Diploma in Podiatric Medicine or Overseas qualification with equivalent BSc experience)
* HPC registration, evidence of continuing professional development.
