Job summary Working within Marine Specialty as Senior Development Underwriter servicing the Marine Cargo and Freight Liability portfolio, with the primary focus of actively supporting Underwriting Manager in the development and conversion of new business opportunities. Main duties Maintain and develop relationships with existing brokers and new. Deputise for the Underwriting Manager, where required. Develop and convert new business opportunities in line with Lonham growth strategy. Identify and develop cross-selling opportunities across Marine Specialty. Underwriting and reviewing new and renewal risks, taking into account type of risk, nature of cargo, limits, voyages, stock locations, turnover, rating guidelines and claims experience. Production and distribution of policy documentation. Input and maintain accurate records within the Underwriting and Accounts systems and capture relevant data to allow for the successful monitoring and analysis of risks written. Monitor risks written that are due for renewal. Prepare reports and statistical information as required by management and the wider business. Liaise with brokers and policy holders to obtain information to provide a quote and produce insurance documentation. Chase for outstanding premium/adjustments/declarations. Raise invoices/credits as required in relation to the policy wording. Liaise with other departments in Lonham and Chaucer as required. Liaise with brokers and clients to develop good working relationships. Attend training sessions and other meetings, as and when required. Regulatory responsibilities Comply with all policies and procedures and ensure that due regard is paid to providing good customer outcomes and the fair treatment of customers. Manage the relationships with Customers, Agents and Service Providers: Advise, assist and service customers on insurance and risk matters to promote customers’ satisfaction Foster positive relationships with customers and attain an understanding of their needs Ensure that customer complaints are promptly identified, recorded and referred as appropriate Assist with the completion of all required annual product review assessments to agreed timescales with approvals obtained and recorded Follow all Chaucer Group Product Governance processes in the UCM and obtain appropriate approvals Ensure that the principles of providing good customer outcomes and the fair treatment of customers are upheld by Agents and Service Providers. Skills & Competencies Experience in underwriting Marine Cargo and Freight Liability insurance with a performance history which demonstrates the ability to develop client relationships, generate profitable new business opportunities and successfully convert enquiries to firm orders. Good Microsoft Office Windows knowledge Good communication skills with the ability to liaise at all levels Good interpersonal skills A good problem solver with knowing who to collaborate with when issues arise Good time management with ability to meet or exceed deadlines Good attention to detail Someone who takes initiative and can collaborate with team members and others inside and outside of the business Education 2 A’ Levels A-C or equivalent 5 GCSE passes (minimum Grade C or new grade 5), including Maths and English Relevant industry qualifications.
