We are looking to recruit a Pharmacy Technician who has the opportunity to contribute towards improving prescribing practices, patient care and safety, which involves assisting patients to get the best from their medicines whilst maximising health outcomes.
The role is advertised as full-time but we welcome interest from part time or job share candidates that have the right skills and ethos for the role.
The successful candidate will hold an NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (BTEC or equivalent) and registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
If not already qualified or enrolled in an approved training pathway, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to complete an approved training pathway, for example, the Primary Care Pharmacy Educational Pathway (PCPEP).
This role will be employed through the West Mendip Primary Care Network (PCN), whilst working full time at Glastonbury Surgery. This provides a great opportunity for the role to benefit from both the expertise of the practice and support from the wider PCN, including a network of Pharmacy Technicians already employed via the PCN.
Main duties of the job
* Operate a telephone appointment system to carry out medicine optimisation tasks.
* Assist and take responsibility for, under the guidance of the Clinical Pharmacist, the delivery of medicines and patient safety audits.
* Support the practice reception team in streaming general prescription requests, so as to allow GPs and clinical pharmacists to review the more clinically complex requests.
* Be accessible to the wider non-clinical team to assist with daily ad-hoc medication queries and requests.
* Support the practice to deliver on QOF and locally commissioned enhanced services where appropriate.

West Mendip Primary Care Network (PCN) is a PCN in the beautiful Mendip area of Somerset with 5 GP practices and a diverse population. The 5 practices are located within United Kingdom's smallest city of Wells and the nearby towns of Glastonbury and Street.

Job responsibilities
The role at Glastonbury Surgery requires the following responsibilities:
* Reviewing discharge summaries and letters from medical professionals and taking necessary action, such as amending repeat medication and arranging blood tests.
* Operate a telephone appointment system to carry out medicines optimisation tasks, including effective medicine administration, supporting medication reviews and reconciliation. This will involve the utilisation of remote consultation skills to work in partnership with patients to ensure they use their medication effectively.
* Assist and take responsibility for, under the guidance of the Clinical Pharmacist, the delivery of medicines and patient safety audits e.g. Eclipse alerts and CQC searches. Using the results of the search the Pharmacy Technician will progress the planning of any required monitoring such as blood tests by inviting patients or arranging district nurse visits for housebound patients.
* Oversee and support the administration of prescriptions, stepping in to support capacity and achieve the timely management of prescription requests.
* Manage shared care protocols and liaise with Clinical Pharmacists for more complex patients.
* To take a proactive approach to the safe handling of prescriptions including assessment of risk and making recommendations for improvement/update protocols.
* Support the practice reception team in streaming general prescription requests, so as to allow GPs and clinical pharmacists to review the more clinically complex requests.
* Be accessible to the wider non-clinical team to assist with daily ad-hoc medication queries and requests.
* Support the implementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GP practices, care homes and other primary care settings.
* Support the practice to deliver on QOF and locally commissioned enhanced services where appropriate.
* Develop relationships with other pharmacy professionals and members of the multi-disciplinary team to support integration across health and social care including primary care, community pharmacy, secondary care and mental health.
