We are a busy, but friendly General Practice Surgery looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join our team.
We serve 14,000 patients, managing their acute and chronic healthcare conditions, and have the privilege of looking after our patients throughout their lives from newborn checks to end-of-life care, and all that comes in between.
The successful candidate will work within our Nursing team, under the Lead Nurse, and alongside our Multidisciplinary team, consisting of both clinical & non-clinical staff to ensure our patients receive outstanding care.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out Healthcare Assistant duties, both autonomously and under delegation from senior clinical staff, including:
1. Phlebotomy clinics
2. Wound care
3. NHS health checks
4. Learning Disability checks
5. Diabetes education
6. Health promotion
7. Ear syringing
8. Smoking cessation support
9. Enhanced Elderly checks
10. Providing care in patients' homes
11. Non-clinical duties including working alongside our Housekeeper to ensure the surgery and its staff run smoothly to ensure quality patient care at all times.
About us
We have a wonderful Nursing team made up of a Lead Nurse, 2 General Practice Nurses, and a Paramedic, who will provide support and learning opportunities to the right candidate to ensure we get the most out of your skills and knowledge, while allowing you to pursue areas of interest by providing plenty of training and education programmes and courses with a personal training budget each year.
We are a very friendly practice, who encourage collaborative working with the four other surgeries within our PCN to provide mutual support to each other and share experiences and learning.
Job responsibilities
We are looking for an HCA to work 32-34 hours a week. HCA clinics will consist of Phlebotomy clinics each morning, followed by a mixture of face-to-face and telephone clinics during the afternoons (depending on patient need and choice).
In addition to the tasks mentioned previously, responsibilities may also include:
1. Intramuscular injections of B12
2. Assisting with Doppler assessment
3. Chaperoning
4. Observation recording
5. Monitoring of patients with certain chronic conditions such as diabetes and mental health conditions
6. Participating in health promotion events within the local community alongside the nursing team when the opportunity arises.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
* Previous experience as a Healthcare Assistant, ideally in General Practice
* Wound care experience/training
* Qualified in Phlebotomy
* IT skills including Microsoft, Teams, and email programmes
* UK Driving License
* NVQ Qualification in Healthcare
* Qualifications in Diabetic foot care
* Qualification to administer intramuscular injections
* ECG recording
* Trained in smoking cessation management
Experience
* Experience of working in a team
* Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients
* Understanding of infection prevention & control in healthcare settings
* Experience of participating in Health Promotion for patients
* Experience of working in Primary care or a GP Practice
* De-escalation and management of complaints or conflict resolution
