Energy Data Development Manager Location - 320 St Vincent Street, Glasgow Flexible Hybrid Working Salary up to £78,000 per annum bonus car allowance excellent benefits Closing Date: 28th of February 2025 Help us create a better future, quicker The Data Transformation team within SP Energy Networks (SPEN) is a multi-discipline team with the responsibility for Data Transformation project strategy, design and delivery – delivering on behalf of both internal and external stakeholders needs – across our distribution and transmission licences following our RIIO-ED2, RIIO-T2 and future regulatory business plans. The team brings together data, engineering and project delivery expertise to develop data solutions in data systems, energy data analytics & insights and AI. As an Energy Data Development Manager within the Data Transformation team, you will lead a group of SME (Electrical, GIS, etc) to support sustainable data solutions to meet the needs of the Data Use Cases brought forward within the SPEN business, working closely with the Product Owners to collect and deliver requirements. What you’ll be doing Establish a small technical team across a range of SMEs including: Electrical engineering Distribution and Transmission Asset and Operations Geographic information systems (GIS) Steer policy & requirements on energy data management, industry development and data analytics with internal/external stakeholders. Develop processes based on GIS, Electrical and SME principles to encourage sustainable and scalable data products which encourages value creation, democratisation of data and re-use. Technical leadership in the design, development and deployment of data products that deliver accessible, reliable, and scalable data solutions to various business stakeholders and data consumers. Collaborate with data product managers, data engineers, data analysts, and other cross-functional teams to understand the data needs, define the data requirements, and design the data architecture and pipelines. Support the data engineering and data science team to extract insights, generate features, and build models that address various business problems and opportunities. Ensure the quality, reliability, and observability of data products by implementing data testing, monitoring, and documentation standards and best practices. Communicate the value proposition, methodology, and results of data products to both technical and non-technical audiences, using data visualisation and storytelling skills. Mentor and coach data scientists and data analysts; and foster a culture of data-driven decision making and innovation across the organisation. What you’ll be responsible for Responsibility for a CAPEX budget of up to £1million and an OPEX budget of up to £500,000 per annum. Leads a specialist team of data engineers and architects with a team of up to 5 direct and 10 indirect employees (contractors). Delivery of technology development initiatives in line with SPEN business plans within CAPEX programme. Working and leading within industry forum to steer technology strategy within the networks operation sector. What you’ll bring Strong understanding of energy data across electricity distribution and transmission network operation domains. Extensive understanding of working with electrical data and data derived from network operations process (DSO, Connections, Asset Management, etc). The knowledge to bridge the gap between the engineering and data topics. To be successful, as a minimum you will have Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline. Proven track record in working in Data Teams whilst applying a an SME discipline (Electrical, GIS, mechanical, civils etc) A strong understanding of effective partnership working with 3rd party organisations. Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating solutions to solve business problems through leveraging data. Experience with Python, ‘R’ or SQL. Leadership and Mentorship: Proven ability to lead a team of data scientists, providing guidance, coaching, and fostering a collaborative environment. Experience mentoring team members and promoting a culture of continuous learning and innovation. Communication and Storytelling: Excellent communication skills to convey complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proficiency in data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI) to create compelling narratives from data insights. Ability to successfully engage with and influence both internal ScottishPower and Iberdrola groups and regulatory bodies / Industry Working Groups (Ofgem, DESNZ, ENA). Knowledge and experience with scalable data systems and architectures. High impact influencing and negotiating skills with respect to technical issues and solutions.
