We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated Rehabilitation Engineer Technician to join our busy friendly community OT and Physio based Wheelchair Service team, based at Temple Farm Industrial Estate, Southend. As a Rehabilitation Engineer Technician, you will deliver a high standard of technical, mechanical and engineering support to our diverse service users; assessing their needs, ordering their equipment and handing over in a timely and friendly manner. You will support the OT's and Physios in joint visits and will also have a caseload of your own.
Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of, independently and in conjunction with, a therapist:
* To be responsible for the receipt and processing of all wheelchairs and ancillary equipment delivered to the Wheelchair Service.
* To maintain accurate stock and movement control.
* To provide intervention to delegated clients in accordance with the services procedures.
* To use own initiative and be proactive in managing own caseload and report to the supervisor accordingly.
* To manage own caseload and work with the senior clinical team on joint visits and clinics.
* To reconfigure, adjust, re-programme and modify wheelchairs and ancillary equipment, within manufacturer's parameters, to facilitate maximum individual client benefit.

Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
* Good level of General English and Maths to at least GCSE level or equivalent
* A formal qualification in Engineering or practical experience in mechanics, engineering or electronics
* Experience or training in providing care to others in a personal or professional capacity
* Full clean driving licence and use of own car
* IT qualifications or experience to the equivalent of ECDL level
Skills/Experience
* Ability to compile and read technical drawings
* Proficiency in the use of various hand & electrical tools, i.e., drills, knives, saws, etc.
* Ability to use fine manual tools safely
* Working with individuals on a one-to-one basis
* Evidence of previous teamwork
* Basic awareness of wheelchairs
* Good interpersonal skills
* Good organisational skills
* Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
* Good use and understanding of the English language
* Practical problem-solving skills
* Physical fitness to meet the demands of the job including the ability to work on the floor and to manipulate small items and work in restricted environments
* Working with people with disabilities
* In-depth awareness of technical aspects of wheelchairs
* Working understanding of stock control through warehouse experience
* Experience of Infection Prevention Control
* Evidence of practical skills, i.e., bicycle mechanics, car mechanics, engineering, electrical
