Herdsperson / Calf Rearer
Location of the Job: County Durham.
Salary & Benefits Package:
1. A competitive salary to reflect experience but starting at £25,000 per year.
2. 3 bedroom cottage on the farm.
3. Council tax and water rates paid.
4. 31 days holiday.
Hours of Work:
5. 5am - 5.30pm.
6. 11 days on 3 days off (Every second Monday)
Breaks:
7. 30 mins for breakfast (After morning milking and calf feeding)
8. 2 hours for lunch typically 12 - 2pm but can be flexible, work load permitting.

10. Only 1 mile from Darlington and local schools.
About The Company:
A Herdsperson / Calf Rearer is now required to join a 5 strong farm team looking after 500 organic dairy cows on our award-winning unit.
Key Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for:
11. Prepping parlour for milking or gathering cows from fields/sheds.
12. Milking with particular attention to hygiene, cows, milker and parlour.
13. Calf feeding twice per day. Times 6.30am and afternoon 3.30pm .
14. Milking calves via mobile taxi and with cake.
15. Checking water is available and clean.
16. Weaned heifers waiting transfer to young stock farm fed haylage and cake.
17. Bedding up calf hutches and Igloos.
18. Scraping and washing the front of hutches.
19. Colostrum feeding, dipping navels and tagging new born calves.
20. Passport applications and filing once arrived.
21. Dehorning heifer calves if required.
22. Moving calves from calving shed/paddock to calf pens.
23. Mucking out and steam cleaning of hutches and igloos
24. Preparing and keeping handover notes up to date.
Ideal Person Skills & Qualifications:
You will have / be…
25. Exposure to dairy farming - milking, calving and feeding cows.
26. Living within 30 miles of the farm or willing to relocate for the role.
27. Training is provided in all of the above.
28. A good work ethic and an ability to follow procedure is.
