I currently depend on my parents for support in a number of areas of my life. I am a capable young lady in many ways but can be quite isolated. I have mild learning difficulties and can be anxious and lack confidence this can lead me to focus on negative areas of my life. My main interests are shopping, the cinema, watching TV and the family dog Dylan who I share with my mum and dad. I would like to go swimming or to the gym or fitness classes but I do not have the confidence to do this on my own. I am a non Smoker. I am entitled to 6 hours P.A. support each week, and due to current commitments would prefer support on a Monday or Wednesday or a combination of both. On occasions I look after the family Cocker Spaniel Dylan usually at the weekend Friday afternoon to Monday morning. I do voluntary work at a charity café in Chester-Le-Street on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am looking for a Personal Assistant, with the following skills and abilities. My expectation of my P.A. are: To provide me with companionship, improve my independence and support my mental health and well being. To actively support me in any chosen activities – swimming/gym. This would include swimming with me or accompanying me around the gym until I am confident to these things independently. To help me plan meals and food shopping more effectively and basic cookery skills. To be willing to work with me to find the best deals for utilities, gas ,electric, TV/SKY, and insurances. To guide me through official correspondence, i.e. DWP etc. To assist me to find voluntary situations or part time employment. and honest. A good listener. Willing to get involved. To broaden my use of public transport and by doing so my access to the wider environment. To question, not lead any tasks, trips and activities that I may choose to develop my thinking skills. Skills: Reliable, trustworthy Occasionally be able to direct/negotiate weekly activities. About the Role Duties and Responsibilities • Support and/or prompt with cooking/meal preparation and eating meals/drinks. • Assist with household chores and general homemaking. • Support and/or prompt to attend appointments as necessary, e.g. hospital/doctors. • Support and/or prompt the individual to access sporting and leisure activities. • Assist and encourage socialisation, participating in activities. • Promote and encourage friendships and independence. • Develop a good and trusting one to one working relationship. • Support with managing paperwork & correspondence. The individuals needs may vary from day to day and your tasks may reflect this. You could be required to perform other duties as reasonably required. You have a responsibility as an employee to report all accidents to the employer immediately. You have a duty to report defects and / or hazards which may give rise to an accident. You are to ensure the safety of the individual at all times. Due to the nature of the work for which you are applying, this post is subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure (costs will be covered).
