Commercial law firm in Leeds is seeking to take on a junior Construction lawyer of 0 to 2 years’ PQE to undertake both contentious and non-contentious Construction law matters. The team works is currently working on a diverse range of projects, including everything from a scheme for 7 new waste and energy plants UK-wide generating enough electricity to power 1.5 million homes, to a huge cladding fire case for a Yorkshire NHS Trust that saw this firm go up against the biggest players in the UK and win. The successful candidate will not only assist on great quality work, but you’ll have wide exposure to the firm’s construction, energy and property clients, with more scope to shine than in many other firms. The types of contentious matters you can expect to gain experience in include: • Advising clients on potential disputes during a construction project • Acting on behalf of clients in adjudications, arbitrations and TCC cases (and drafting documentation) • Attending adjudication, arbitration and court hearings with the client • Researching and analysing documents and case law to ensure the accuracy of advice and procedure • Attending meetings and negotiations with opposing parties.
The types of non-contentious matters you can expect to gain experience in include: • Advising on, drafting and reviewing standard form contracts (JCT, NEC, FIDIC) • Advising on drafting and reviewing professional team appointments • Liaising with commercial property and energy colleagues on documentation that needs construction input • Carrying out due diligence and advising on construction documentation for bank related transactions.
You will also play a key role in business development by attending construction related events, writing blogs and articles, providing training to clients and contacts and assisting in firm-wide related marketing activities. All with full support and development opportunities as you progress your career. We are looking for applicants who are confident self-starters who are capable and comfortable engaging with a wide range of professionals. Ideally you will work across contentious and non-contentious matters, but we would still be interested in hearing from you if you’ve spent most of your time on one side of the fence or the other (as long as you are willing to work across both).
