The COO Role
The COO will direct quality, manufacturing, purchasing, service, planning and project management in the business and support the CEO in achieving his strategic objectives, acting as his trusted second in command.
The role is office based, and the candidate should live within a commutable distance of the UK headquarters. Some travel to suppliers in Britain and Europe will be required, and occasional international travel to subsidiaries and customers.
Responsibilities Include
* Ensure goods are produced efficiently, on time, within budget and to a high-quality standard.
* Drive increased margin and yield, improve quality control and lead time.
* Work with your team to plan, organise and control production.
* Negotiate with contract electronic manufacturing, contract administration, quality inspection and project management.
* Generate and implement strategies to improve service levels and efficiency through the organisation.
* Oversee purchasing, component and supply chain management, warehousing stock control, product assembly and test.
* Set and monitor quality standards of products, implement and enforce quality control programmes to quality objectives.
* Review and monitor production schedules and processes with the team.
* Supervise and motivate your team, review performance and identify training needs.Ensure cross functional development and assist in the consolidation and integration of aftermarket and quality functions.
* Update standard operating procedures for production and ensure that procedures are adhered to.
* With your team, achieve continuous improvement in yield, cash and margin.
Experience & Skills Required
* Deep knowledge and experience of electronics and high technology manufacturing.
* Knowledge of, and experience in, electronics and box-build processes and techniques.
* Experience of working in a regulated environment, with experience of quality systems.
* Proven experience in hands-on operations, manufacturing and quality roles.
* Proven experience in supply chain management, procurement and negotiation.
* Project management and production planning experience.
* Demonstrable success in achieving strategic goals (e.g. IT, cost efficiency and quality).
* Expertise in ERP & CRM systems.
* Knowledge of implementing Lean and Continuous Improvement processes.
* International trade exposure, including customs and tariffs.
