This post is for an experienced person to join the permanent staff team at the school's Yeovil site(s). The right person should have experience of working with students that have SEMH and display challenging behaviours. This job role will involve supporting the whole staff team, reinforcing policies, and working directly to challenge behaviour misdemeanors onsite at the school. This particular Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) provides education for pupils of primary and secondary ages across KS1, KS2, KS3, and KS4. This role is intended as a fixed-term contract opportunity; however, it could have future potential depending on the successful applicant's future aims and abilities.
Naturally, working at a specialist PRU setting for students with SEMH will involve working with young and teenage learners that display challenging behaviour, so resilience, a sense of humour, empathy, and the desire to motivate learners whatever their background or ability will be key to being successful in this role. Commonly, students that attend this school have often missed large parts of standard education or have significant knowledge gaps.
This organisation offers one of the most supportive and progressive environments possible for both learners and staff colleagues. This staff team works hard to ensure they provide the best opportunities for their learners. Leading the provision is an approachable and inspiring, award-winning headteacher. As an employer, the school is a champion of the future educators scheme and actively promotes and supports those interested in pursuing a career in education.
The school is open-minded as to the type of person that will be best suited; however, it's intended that this would attract someone with a background in Senior Leadership (SLT).
Essential Applicant Criteria:
* Experienced at working with learners that frequently display challenging behaviour
* Resilient, positive natured, and maintain composure when working in challenging situations
* Committed, empathetic, and passionate about providing the best opportunity for the learners
* Strong work ethic with a professional approach
Elementa is the recruiting partner; therefore, applicants being considered for the role after pre-screening will be required to complete the registration process for Elementa. This includes full vetting, background and referencing checks, and application for a DBS Enhanced Disclosure (which may be chargeable at £53.20) unless you have a current DBS on the update service.
ELEMENTA CANDIDATE COMMITMENT:
* Weekly pay with no waiting for monthly payroll cut-off dates; Elementa pays one week in lieu.
* PAYE contract unless a candidate specifically requests it; all candidates are paid via PAYE giving them the protections and payment structure of a traditional employer-employee relationship.
* Training & Support: a broad range of free or heavily discounted training available including Safeguarding, Behaviour, Team Teach, SEND, Makaton, and Thrive. Regular welfare contact and support from a dedicated candidate manager.
* Fair pay policy: our candidates are paid to scale; where a variation on this may be required, written agreement will be provided ahead of the position.
* Additional services to support our staff: we have a network of partners who offer support services to our candidates including tax returns, accountancy, legal, and more.
