Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30am - 03:45pm
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a kind, patient, and empathetic individual to work as an SEN Teaching Assistant in a supportive primary school in Havering. This role involves both group support and 1:1 assistance with primary-aged pupils who have special educational needs, particularly children with ASD. In this role, you will also be using phonics to support SEN children in their literacy development and helping to foster social, communication, and life skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide tailored group support and 1:1 assistance to primary-aged pupils with ASD and other SEN needs, following their EHCP's.
2. Use phonics to help SEN children develop their literacy skills.
3. Work closely with class teachers to plan and implement interventions that support the academic and social development of students.
4. Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), making adjustments as necessary to ensure progress.
5. Assist in the development of students' communication skills, using tools such as PECS and Makaton.
6. Monitor and record student progress, regularly providing feedback to teachers and parents.
7. Support students in a safe, inclusive environment, promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
Requirements:
1. Experience working with primary-aged children, particularly those with ASD.
2. Familiarity with using phonics to support children’s learning.
3. Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, and sensory support techniques.
4. Willingness to provide personal care as needed.
5. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
6. Enhanced DBS on the update service.
