Our AI/ML Engineering organization supports GSK.ai product delivery by designing, building, and maintaining key platforms and services alongside our Machine Learning teams and the Onyx Platform organization. The products we build empower researchers to leverage advanced AI to mitigate risks in advancing drugs through the pipeline. Our UK-based team will focus on high-priority objectives in biomedical and clinical domains, as well as advancing our LLM and Agents strategic roadmap. We seek an outstanding leader to set the vision and strategy, execute a fit-for-purpose hiring strategy, and drive the product line end-to-end.
As a Director of Engineering, you will perform in high-visibility, rapid growth settings. Competitive candidates will have a proven track record of high-output leadership and experience shipping cloud software and data products at scale. Experience with ML platforms is a significant advantage. A willingness to learn about genetics and biology is appreciated, even if prior experience in the Pharma industry is not required. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are essential, along with the ability to represent and convey the values and principles of our AIML team.

As a Director of AI/ML Engineering, you will:
* Lead a software engineering team responsible for deploying production services and platforms.
* Manage complex, multi-quarter, cross-functional projects spanning partners and stakeholders in AI/ML, research science, and laboratories.
* Be a standard bearer for production and software engineering best practices within the organization.
* Develop plans to meet requirements, organize a capable team, and lead and track delivery.
* Drive an interview process to enable team growth while adhering to diversity and inclusion requirements.
* Maintain a safe and inclusive team environment in which people thrive.
* Operate transparently, communicating clearly and accurately to leadership and the broader organization.
* Develop a high-performing team through coaching, feedback, and ensuring opportunities for growth.
Basic Qualifications:
* Graduate studies in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
* Proven track record as an independent contributor capable of end-to-end development of data-driven products and services.
* Advanced Python programming skills with a history of delivering robust software solutions.
* Proficiency in Google Cloud Platform or similar enterprise cloud environment, including security and privacy controls, deployments, scaling, monitoring, alerting, and analytics.
* 2+ years experience in a technical lead or engineering manager role with direct reports.
* 4+ years of professional software development experience, including code standards, code review, version control, CI/CD, testing, documentation, and Agile methodologies, with the ability to mentor others.
* Proficiency with standard deep learning algorithms and model architecture.
Preferred Qualifications:
* PhD in Computer Science.
* Tech lead or management experience on large-scale AI/ML platforms such as LLMs, feature stores, or search.
* Demonstrated success in shipping impactful AI/ML products in the Pharma industry.
* Academic or industry background in genetics and biology.
