Work pattern: This is a 365 day operation therefore there will be the need to work weekends, evenings and bank holidays in accordance with business needs Duration : Permanent/Full time The Role West Midland Safari Park is currently sourcing candidates for the role of HSE Manager. The successful candidate will co-ordinate, support and advise the business on all aspects with regards to Health & Safety and be responsible for ensuring a safe working environment without risk to safety or health. The role will ensure that all HSE policies, procedures, rules and legal regulations are consistently met, reviewed, updated and communicated across the business. The successful candidate will be the focus point of contact throughout the business if HSE issues do arise and will provide help to continuously develop safe systems of work whilst working alongside managers/supervisors. The ideal candidate will bring an infectious energy to HSE and work in alignment with the HR and Operational teams to train and educate staff in the use and purpose of Health and Safety policies, procedures and processes. This extends to supporting all colleagues on Health & Safety matters to ensure the Company not only complies with its statutory obligations but helps to cultivate a site culture that promotes trust, learning and reporting at all levels Additionally, the successful candidate will also work with the daily operational Duty Manager to ensure all areas of the Safari-Drive through and park areas are operating in a safety first approach. Above all, we’re looking for someone with a key interest and focus on all things HSE, who is self-motivated to achieve success and drive positive and proactive change through diligence and being able and willing to think ahead. Key responsibilities: To ensure overall responsibility and compliance for the Park’s HSE matters, making sure all staff are aware of the importance of a safe approach, following all relevant policies, procedures and statutory obligations. To pro-actively keep up to date with developments in HSE and UK/EU legislation, case law and industry best practice, amending and implementing policies and procedures in line with the HSE requirements of the Park. To advise Senior Leaders and Managers on all aspects of HSE, including incident reporting and preventative methods. To work closely and collaboratively with Senior Leaders and Management teams, reviewing and providing advice regarding department policies, procedures, checks and records to ensure these are thorough and effective. To organise and conduct relevant HSE training for all staff as required, including induction training, first aid, fire safety and IOSH. To organise, chair and record HSE committee meetings ensuring actions that arise are addressed and rectified. To work closely and collaboratively with management teams to ensure all Risk Assessments are conducted as required by legislation, including chemicals, manual handling, lone working, animal risks, pregnant workers, young workers etc. To work closely with the Guest Relations Officer to investigate complaint related legal proceedings, gathering and compiling appropriate documentation to form comprehensive case files. To manage a review process for all relevant HSE procedures, processes and documentation, ensuring they are fit for purpose and update in the required timeframes. To ensure all annual and routine HSE audits and activities and/or safety checks are completed to the required standards and to the required timeframes, providing detailed reports and associated recommendations to the Operations Director for consideration. To work closely and collaboratively with management teams to ensure all required safety equipment (including smoke alarms, ladders, first aid boxes, extinguishers) etc. are in the appropriate places, well stocked and operating effectively. To advise on PPE requirements and usage, ensuring that all relevant departments have sufficient equipment and are using equipment in accordance with WMSP policies and procedures. To carry out investigations into all accidents and near misses, recording and reporting to the Managing Director as appropriate. To work closely and collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure that all contractors are informed of, and adhere to, relevant HSE policies and procedures. To line manage the First Aid team, ensuring they provide a professional, confidential and timely service across WMSP. To liaise with the relevant HSE authorities in a professional and timely manner, including Insurers, HSE and Local Authorities Maintaining accurate records of all HSE matters with regular inspections carried out in all key legal areas Develop new toolbox talks, best practice information sheets, and collaborate with stakeholders. Report regularly on all HSE issues and solutions. About you To be considered for interview your experience and skills set should demonstrate: 5 years experience in a similar role Extensive knowledge and awareness of HSE procedures, practices and legislation A HSE related qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma, or NVQ 5/6 or CMIOSH or equivalent Strong leadership skills, and the ability to implement effective safety initiatives. Experience of conducting root cause investigations, providing remedial actions and liaising with all stakeholders The ability to work under your own initiative is key with the adaptability for change in a fast-paced customer facing environment. Knowledge within sustainability and environmental, and of CDM regs is desirable but not essential Evidence of strong interpersonal and people management skills are essential. Effective time management and IT skills The successful candidate will be required to drive around the park, into the animal reserve and animal restricted areas, therefore you will hold a full, valid driving licence. You will also be willing to undertake a First Aid at Work qualification if you do not already have one.
