Learning Support Functional Skills Tutor
Job Purpose
As a Learning Support Tutor and Functional Skills Tutor, your role is to inspire and guide learners, including those with learning difficulties and disabilities, toward achieving their educational ambitions. You will assess individual learning needs, deliver personalized support, and contribute to various educational programs, including government-funded and commercial offerings. This position is office-based with 100% face-to-face delivery within a 25-mile radius of the SE1 area.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
Learning Support
* Deliver one-to-one and group sessions, as well as webinars, to facilitate learning and development for Functional Skills and Learning Support.
* Provide monthly interventions to ensure learners' progress aligns with their learning plans.
* Use an evidence-based teaching approach tailored to individual needs.
* Offer pastoral care, utilizing the Learning Support Signposting Tools when necessary.
* Coordinate and manage assessment and learning visits in line with learners’ plans.
* Leverage approved tools, such as Cognassist, alongside internal resources to enhance delivery.
* Support learners in achieving their qualifications within set timeframes, ensuring the quality of delivery remains high.
Collaboration
* Work alongside Tutors to optimize learners’ progress and outcomes.
* Develop and implement sequenced learning plans in partnership with Tutors.
* Contribute to peer-led training initiatives for Functional Skills standardization and delivery.
* Liaise with employers and learner mentors to promote continuous development.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
* Regularly update the Learning Support Manager on learner progress.
* Ensure adherence to ESFA funding guidelines, documenting Learning Support plans and their impact effectively.
* Maintain accurate evidence of all planned and delivered Learning Support activities.
* Proactively address non-starters, non-achievers, and interruptions in learning alongside Tutors.
Performance Metrics
* Deliver consistently high standards to meet ESFA and Ofsted requirements.
* Implement innovative methods to enhance learning delivery and elevate the organization’s profile.
* Collaborate with colleagues to boost learner engagement, retention, and progression rates.
* Ensure full compliance with ESFA and internal quality standards, supporting audit processes where required.
General Duties
* Ensure health and safety protocols are upheld during interactions with learners.
* Promote inclusivity and diversity throughout learner engagements.
* Assist in developing resources and learning materials for both Learning Support and Functional Skills.
Essential Qualifications
* Teaching qualification such as C/DET or equivalent (or actively working towards).
* Proficient in Mathematics and English at a minimum Level 3 standard.
Desirable Qualifications
* Degree in Business or Education.
* Subject-specific qualification in English and/or Mathematics.
* Assessor Award (e.g., CAVA, TAQA).
Experience
* Proven ability to deliver high-quality teaching and learner support.
* Substantial experience teaching and assessing English, Maths, and Additional Learning Support.
* Expertise in delivering remote Functional Skills and Learning Support.
* Skilled in managing all stages of the learner journey, from initial assessment to teaching and evaluation.
* Familiarity with e-portfolio systems and digital learning platforms such as Cognassist.
* A minimum of five years in an education, training, or development setting is preferred.
* At least two years of experience in assessing and planning additional learning needs.
Skills and Attributes
* Strong ability to motivate and support learners during challenging times.
* Skilled at identifying and implementing reasonable adjustments to aid learning.
* Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to independently manage your diary.
Salary: £28,000 to £32,000
