Job Description - Director of Nursing, JML Care Center (250305-50007095)
Purpose of Position: Manages or aids in directing activities of nursing staff and activities in nursing services, to ensure patient & resident needs are met in accordance with instructions of physician and procedures and regulations of a SNF/LTC Nursing facility.
Description
1. Coordinates activities with other patient care units.
2. This is the second highest level position in nursing services.
3. Requires RN license along with clinical and supervisory experience.
4. Consults with Top Nursing Executive on nursing problems and interpretation of JML /CCHC policies to ensure patient needs are met.
5. Plans and organizes orientation and in-service training for unit staff members, and participates in guidance and educational programs.
6. Assists in formulating budget.
7. Engages in studies and investigations related to improving nursing care.
8. Must maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information; and adhere to Resident’s rights.
9. Performs other work related duties as required or requested.
10. Challenges current working practices; identifies process improvement opportunities and presents recommendations and solutions to management. Engages and commits to the organization’s culture of continuous improvement by actively participating, supporting, and promoting CCHC Pillars of Excellence.
Qualifications
1. Possesses, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university; Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.
2. Demonstrates, as a minimum, three (3) years of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility; Prior Director of Nursing experience in a Long Term Care facility preferred.
3. Holds, as a minimum, six (6) months of experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
4. Holds a current, unencumbered, active RN license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.
5. Holds BLS/CPR Program Certification.
6. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served.
7. Exhibits the ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
8. Shows a commitment to being a supportive team member, contributing to and being an example of teamwork and the team concept.
9. Possesses the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
10. Handles interactions tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
11. Maintains knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
12. Displays leadership and supervisory ability and a willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
13. Has the capacity to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
14. Exhibits patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
15. Demonstrates a proactive approach to seeking out new methods and principles and incorporating them into existing nursing practices.
16. Effectively communicates information concerning a resident’s condition.
17. Ensures no direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
18. Capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds and meeting all other Physical and Sensory requirements of the job.
