Job overview
The role is to carry out routine collections and deliveries of medical devices to all clinical areas from the Medical Equipment Library. The work involves general portering duties including moving and handling packages and medical equipment throughout the shift. The applicant will assist with stocking, tracking, and recording of devices and their consumables throughout the hospital and its external services.
Main duties of the job
* To assist with the day-to-day running of the Medical Devices Equipment Library (MDEL) to ensure stock levels of medical devices are maintained in the ward store cupboards and wards and departments across Kettering General Hospital.
* To collect medical devices from all wards/depts within Kettering General Hospital and deliver them to SSD (Sterile Services Dept) to be cleaned.
* To assist to maintain an electronic inventory of medical devices and report the usage of any accessories used.
* Ability to use an electric trolley to aid collection of equipment throughout the hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* To assist with the day-to-day running of the Medical Device Equipment Library (MDEL) and ensuring stock levels of equipment are maintained in the ward store cupboards and to communicate any shortfalls to the Medical Device Equipment Library Co-ordinator (MDELC) to ensure a safe and effective standard of service.
* Ensure a safe and timely delivery and collection service of medical devices to the Trust's Sterile Services Unit for equipment to be cleaned.
* Delivery and collection of damaged/broken medical devices to wards/departments and then returning them once work has been completed.
* Assisting with bed/mattress supply and reporting any maintenance requirements or shortfalls as needed to the MDEL.
* To help with controlling and maintaining an adequate stock level of all consumables provided for equipment supplied by the MDEL.
* Recognise visual faults/damaged medical devices and communicate these to the MDLE who will take remedial action.
* Ensure that all devices leaving the MDEL are in full working order and have an asset number and current service verification label attached.
* To assist with maintaining an electronic inventory of the MDEL devices and report the usage of any accessories used.
Person specification
Education & training
* Literacy to Level 1 (equivalent to GCSE G D)
* Numeracy to Level 1 (equivalent to GCSE G-D)
* Driving licence
* Experience of undertaking manual handling activity
* Understanding of the importance of hygiene standards
* Ability to use a computer to a basic level
* Able to push, pull heavy loads.
* Ability to record written information accurately
* Ability to communicate and build relationships with colleagues
