What will the apprentice be doing on site
One of the largest & leading suppliers of commercial fencing & landscaping contractors in the Southeast of England, is growing its landscaping division due to continued growth and success. They primarily specialise in the commercial sector and work closely with contractors, developers, and suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of essential materials.
They are seeking a detail-orientated and pro-active Purchasing Assistant to support the procurement team in sourcing and purchasing soft and hard landscaping materials. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the construction sector, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to manage supplier relationships effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Predominantly working with the landscaping division, however regular communication and interaction with other sectors of the business.
2. Using measuring software with landscape architect’s drawings to scale and quantify works.
3. Generate numerous purchase orders (POs) for trees, plants, turf, aggregates, sundries, and various other materials and equipment in accordance with budgets / timeframes on a daily basis.
4. Monitor inventory levels and co-ordinate with project managers to ensure materials are available as required.
5. Obtain and compare supplier quotes, negotiating cost-effective deals whilst maintaining quality standards.
6. Stay updated on industry trends, new materials, and best practices in landscaping procurement.
7. Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and procedures.
8. Maintain accurate records of purchases, supplier agreements, and stock levels.
9. Develop & maintain relationships with suppliers, subcontractors & clients.
10. Communication / document control – distribute drawings/specifications to operational teams, informing clients of delivery dates, use of online booking-in systems, etc.
11. Working alongside quantity surveyors / line management to help prepare & issue quotations, budgets, bills of quantities & other administrative duties relating to the role.
12. Be involved in various internal and external meetings alongside colleagues and clients both virtually and on site.
13. Site visits may also be required to assist with co-ordinating and auditing works.
14. Track changes to the design and/or construction work and adjusting orders and costings accordingly.
15. Measure, value and bill completed works.
16. Liaise with clients and other construction professionals, such as site managers, project managers and site engineers on a regular basis.
Monday to Friday 7.30 am – 5 pm
£344.00 per week
Are there restrictions
Possess a clean UK driving licence and/or be able to attend an office-based role daily. However, site visits are sometimes required so the ability to drive is preferable.

Desirable qualities
1. Knowledge of landscaping materials, plants, suppliers, and industry standards.
2. Previous experience in a purchasing or procurement role within the construction or landscaping industry is preferred.
3. Previous experience of purchasing / buying in the industry would be preferable.
4. The ability to understand and interpret technical drawings and be able to highlight and challenge any uncertainties.
Qualifications Required
5 GCSE's grade 9-4 (A*-C)
2 A-Levels or equivalent level 3 qualification.
