We are currently recruiting for a Technical Workshop Supervisor to work within the Rycotewood HE Wood machine Workshop based in Oxford.
This role is a great way to apply your skills with woodworking machines to create a safe learning environment, while taking a step into education to work alongside our teachers in delivering furniture courses to students.
You'll work within our dedicated HE wood machine workshop, which is used by learners on our courses from level 1 or 2 apprenticeships, level 2 and 3 diplomas, our Foundation and BA (hons) programme and short courses.
This is a permanent, part-time role working 29.5 hours per week (0.8 FTE) at our City of Oxford College Campus, with the exact arrangement of those hours flexible for the right candidate.
What do you need to be successful as a Technical Workshop Supervisor at Activate Learning?
The right candidate will have relevant subject area/extensive industry knowledge in areas such as woodworking, machining or furniture making, and be enthusiastic to share these to enhance students' skills.
Experience in using wood specific industrial machinery and maintaining it whilst being comfortable handling and maintaining a variety of tools is essential, and you must have a positive attitude towards proactive Health & Safety.
You will also oversee the Health and Safety of the workshops and machines, so experience of administration would be beneficial. It will be your responsibility to liaise with the team to agree on ordering tools and consumables when required to keep each workshop fully stocked with the right equipment.
The ideal candidate will have strong time management skills and be able to assist the class teacher with planning study programmes. You'll work with teaching staff to assist “at risk” learners and support their development. As such, you will need to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and an aptitude for collaboration.
