This new role offers a unique and impactful opportunity to provide vital psychological support to individuals affected by the aftermath of the Infected Blood Inquiry (IBPS beneficiaries), while also serving a broader population within the Haemophilia Centre.
This role is ideal for someone with significant experience in providing psychological support in healthcare settings, particularly for individuals facing long-term health conditions or traumatic life experiences. Experience with working with people who have haemophilia or similar complex conditions would be highly beneficial, although not strictly necessary. The ability to work autonomously, as well as part of a multidisciplinary team, will be essential for success in this role.

·Development & Delivery of Specialist Psychological Services
• Tailored Support for IBPS Beneficiaries:
The post holder will be responsible for designing, implementing, overseeing aspecialized psychological support serviceto meet thespecific needsof IBPS beneficiaries. This will involve understanding the unique psychological and emotional impacts of the inquiry on those infected and affected, and developing services that can address these needs.
• Psychological Services for Haemophilia Patients:
In addition to IBPS beneficiaries, the post holder will provide psychological support for patients within theHaemophilia Centrewho are living withhaemophiliaand other related bleeding disorders.
• Psychological Support Services
• In-Person and Remote Support:
The role includes delivering psychological support bothin-personand viaremote platforms, ensuring accessibility for patients wherever they are located. This will involve managing patientpathwaysand referrals, coordinating the care journey for each individual to ensure they receive the appropriate level of psychological support.
• Person-Centered Assessments and Treatment:
• Comprehensive psychological formulationsto guide treatment.
• Development ofindividualized treatment plansto address the emotional and psychological needs of patients.
• Complex risk assessmentsto ensure patient safety.

Systematic Evaluation and Improvement
• Evaluating Service Effectiveness:
You will have the responsibility tosystematically evaluatethe psychological services provided to ensure they are effectively meeting the needs of the patients. This includes ongoing assessment of patient satisfaction, therapeutic outcomes, and the continuous improvement of service delivery over time.
Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Team Approach
• Collaborating with Multidisciplinary Teams (MDTs):
As part of amultidisciplinary team(MDT), the post holder will work closely withnurses,medical staff, andconsultant haematologiststo ensure that psychological care is integrated into the wider care plan. The aim is to provideholistic carefor the patient, addressing both thephysicalandpsychologicalaspects of their treatment.
• Psychosocial Approach to Care Planning:
The post holder will providepsychosocial inputto the wider MDT, ensuring that psychological considerations are incorporated into the overallcare planningfor each patient. This includes providing advice on how to manage the psychological impact of bleeding disorders and, in the case of IBPS beneficiaries, the trauma and distress caused by the inquiry's outcomes.
• Consultation and Advice:
The post holder will also offerconsultationandexpert adviceto other healthcare professionals involved in the patient’s care, particularly regarding thepsychological aspectsof care for patients with haemophilia and IBPS beneficiaries. This could involve direct input into decision-making and supporting staff in addressing psychological challenges in patient management.
Autonomy and Professional Guidelines
• Working Autonomously:
The role requires a high degree of autonomy, with the post holder expected to work independently, managing complex cases and making clinical decisions within professional guidelines.
• Documentation and Adherence to Trust Policies:
The post holder will be responsible for providing clear and comprehensive documentation of all assessments, treatments, and interactions with patients. This documentation will need to comply withprofessional guidelinesand adhere to theTrustandIBPS policies and procedures.
• Psychosocial Care and Referrals:
The role also involvesmaking referralsto other psychological or support services where necessary, ensuring that patients have access to afull range of care optionsbased on their individual needs. The post holder will also contribute tocare planningdiscussions, offering insights on how psychological support can be integrated into the patient’s overall treatment strategy.
