The Opportunity
Our Competition, Regulation and Trade group is consistently rated as one of the leading practices in its field, with a team of lawyers based in Europe (London, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Madrid & Paris), Asia and across Australia. Amongst our clients are leading financial institutions, top Fortune and FTSE/other listed companies from all industry sectors, regulatory bodies and national governments.
Our practice covers the full spectrum of contentious and non-contentious competition, regulation and trade work globally, including:
1. cartel and other behavioural investigations
2. merger control and foreign direct investment
3. antitrust advice
4. competition litigation (private enforcement and appeals)
5. regulatory matters
6. state aid, public procurement, WTO and trade
The CRT group's Knowledge Lawyers are a key part of the wider team, working closely with partners and associates to support on client facing training, presentations and publications, as well as internal know-how and training. Although it is primarily a London-focussed role, there will be regular opportunities to work with our wider EU and global network on cross-border initiatives.
Candidates should have strong legal skills, with excellent drafting and presentational skills which enable them to explain complex developments clearly and succinctly both orally and in writing. Candidates should also be able to organise and manage workload priorities effectively. They must be able to present confidently both to clients and to internal audiences and have a keen interest in the role of technology in delivering legal services.
Role / Primary Responsibilities:
1. Monitoring developments: Anticipating and monitoring developments in relevant law and procedure, and assisting the practice to prepare itself and its clients to deal with these developments
2. Client-facing publications: Drafting posts for our blog, and other ad hoc articles or briefings, which provide high quality analysis and insights into new legal developments and help maintain the profile of our market-leading CRT practice
3. Client training: Preparing, co-ordinating and/or presenting client training on developments in law and practice and/or appropriate skills training
4. Technical queries: Dealing with technical queries from fee earners at all levels both within the CRT group and from across the firm
5. Internal training: Presenting internal training as needed.
Qualifications / Skills / Experience:
1. At least 5 years PQE
2. Strong academic history
3. CRT experience gained from within a leading private practice firm (with experience in foreign direct investment and competition litigation a bonus)
4. Bright self-starter with the desire and ability to continuously acquire, build upon, and share knowledge
5. Excellent attention to detail
6. Excellent drafting and communication skills, with the ability to interface with all levels and particularly to win the respect of clients as well as the partner, fee-earner and PSL community
7. Collaborative team player with the ability, and desire, to develop and work in a fast paced, busy team
8. Previous professional support or knowledge experience is desirable but not essential
