Job summary
An opportunity for a full time Band 7 Respiratory Clinical Physiologist has arisen to work within the Physiological Measurements team to meet new demand at the Scunthorpe Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC). The Physiological Measurements Department is sited within Medical Physics at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital (DPOW), Grimsby and provides a comprehensive range of Physiological Measurements investigations. Routine clinical work includes provision of Respiratory Function investigations at DPOW, Scunthorpe General Hospital (SGH) and the new Scunthorpe CDC, Vascular Diagnostics, Urodynamic investigations and Bone Densitometry.
The post holder will perform the requested diagnostic examinations to a high level of skill and provide specialist knowledge covering a range of procedures and practice, underpinned by the relevant knowledge and practical experience. They would be expected to deputise in all areas, clinical and managerial in the absence of the Head of Physiological Measurements. The post holder will rotate between the acute sites (DPOW / SGH) and the new Scunthorpe CDC.
The post holder will need to be working towards or hold State Registration under the current voluntary registration with The Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) or The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Main duties of the job
Performing and reporting to ARTP 2020 guidelines:
1. Dynamic lung volumes - spirometry
2. Static lung volume using body plethysmography and nitrogen washout
3. Gas transfer by single breath - breath holding method
4. Reversibility testing (as requested) to inhaled bronchodilators using nebulisation
5. Hypoxic Challenge Testing
6. Osmohale Bronchial Challenge testing
7. Overnight Oximetry testing
8. Respiratory muscle function testing including sitting and supine spirometry, sniff nasal inspiratory pressure, maximal inspiratory pressure and maximal expiratory pressure measurements
9. 6-minute walk tests
10. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide

Qualifications
Essential
* BSc Clinical Physiology / Healthcare Science (Respiratory / Sleep) or equivalent
* ARTP Part I and Part II certificates
Desirable
* Adult teaching qualification
* ARTP Reporting Course
* Leadership qualification
Experience
Essential
* Minimum 4 years experience working as Senior Respiratory Physiologist
* Performance and interpretation of all Respiratory investigations listed in job description
* Experience / ability to train and support junior staff
* Experience of writing / updating standard operating procedures
Desirable
* Leadership experience
* Experience of teaching large groups
* Experience as work based supervisor / mentor
* Involvement in audit
