Chef Assistant
We've got a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Chef Assistant to join our Catering team at One Hatfield Hospital. We're looking for an enthusiastic experienced Chef Assistant who is passionate about their role and shares our high standards.
Reporting to the Head Chef, as the successful chef assistant, you will work flexibly alongside the catering team. You will assist with the provision of an outstanding catering service to patients, visitors, and staff within our private hospital.
You should be familiar with food safety regulations, follow HACCP guidelines and have knowledge of food allergies and specific dietary requirements.
Hours: 37.5 per week over 4 shifts.

Qualifications
* Level 2 food hygiene certificate
City and Guilds 706-1/2 or NVQ equivalent preferred but not essential
Experience
* Experience in a similar role
* Familiar with best practise, HACCP and Health and Safety
Skills
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including face-to-face, over the phone and by email
* Patient orientated with a focus on continuous service improvement
* A good team player with a collaborative approach to achieving goals
* Competent using IT systems
* Enthusiastic and passionate
* Ability to work well under pressure
Role expectations:
* To undertake and fulfil the roles and responsibilities of Second Chef on a day to day basis.
* Deputise for the Head Chef in his / her absence
* Assist in preparation of Menus for coffee shop, ward, staff restaurant and functions
* Order stock appropriate to menu and business activity from approved supplies
* Check deliveries match the order and report any shortages
* Ensure food is ready at required times and served to the appropriate standard
* Ensure HACCP regulations are followed and all paperwork is correctly completed, including cooking temperatures, fridge temperatures and cleaning rotas.
* Take responsibility and aim to solve any issues that arise whilst on duty
* Report any defects within the department using the correct procedures
* Undertake stock rotations, labelling including allergy awareness
* Ensure food is served as fresh as possible and not prepared too far in advance
* Assist Head Chef with staff schedules to ensure shifts are covered with appropriate staffing levels based on activity including functions
* Complete free issues for the end of the month and send over to the finance department
* Check that all the patient food trays are all correctly laid up by the hostess and ensure that only two trays are sent out at any time.
* Assist with the reviews of risk assessments/COSHH/and report any Health and Safety matters
* Carry out duties of the Infection Control Link for the catering and non-clinical teams including hand hygiene competencies and reporting any infection control issues and feedback to the staff the outcome of the meetings
* To assist with the management of the Nutretics system, ensure the database is up to date and completed
* To aim to produce Menus/labels/ reports from the Nutretics system
