0457 - Cardiology & Respiratory Function Service Manager
The role of the department is to provide patients with a high quality, safe and cost-effective cardiology and respiratory physiological measurement service, including the management of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) and to continually develop the service to incorporate modern advances in these fields.
The cardiology and respiratory physiological measurement service underpins the acute and elective services in the Trust. The department has a vital role in the delivery of National Service Frameworks and Integrated Care Pathways, and provides a service to all medical and surgical specialties for BHNFT, all GP practices and community hospitals within the areas served by NHS Barnsley and local Integrated Care Board (ICB).
The Cardiology Department provides the following services for inpatients, outpatients and some of these as direct access referrals from GPs:
1. Electrocardiograms
2. Ambulatory ECG and BP monitoring
3. Exercise treadmill tests including cardio-pulmonary exercise testing
4. Echocardiography transthoracic, transoesophageal, contrast and stress
5. Pacemaker implantation and followup
6. Physiologist led implantable loop recorder (ILR) implantation
7. Angiography
Main duties of the job
The Cardiology and Respiratory Function Service Manager is responsible for all sections of the department. The post holder will provide operational leadership and management within the Cardiology and Respiratory Department, whilst developing services provided by the CBU.
Other duties as part of the role include:
1. Ensure a proactive programme of training and mentorship is provided to student physiologists and more junior/newly qualified clinical staff.
2. Manage and motivate the team of staff, ensuring appropriate specialist training, knowledge and expertise is delivered, developed and maintained.
3. Ensure that in consultation with the Cardiologists and Chest Physicians that the services develop and respond to the demands placed upon it.
4. Supervise all staff ensuring training progress and development is in line with national and locally agreed curriculum.
5. Develop and deliver specialist clinical technical programmes of learning for new trainees (in-house) to ensure effective workforce planning and retention.
6. Strategic workforce planning to ensure adequate long term staffing needs are addressed.
7. Develop and deliver CPD training in Cardiology and Respiratory for all grades of staff.
8. Responsible for teaching, and delivering training and development within the Cardiology and Respiratory Services. Ensure that the department operates within the Trust's agreed policies and procedures including employment, disciplinary, health and safety, fire etc.

Person Specification
Experience
* Extensive demonstrable proficiency with:
* Angiography
* Other non-invasive cardiology procedures
* Spirometry and Full lung function testing
* Significant experience as a Chief Physiologist
* Demonstrable experience of leading staff.
* Must have demonstrable experience and confidence to supervise and coach individuals/teams in angiography and pacing.
* Evidence of developing new/innovative services.
Knowledge and awareness
* Demonstrable knowledge of current/future NHS policy.
* Proficient in angiography and pacing, requiring specialist knowledge in both theory and practical skills.
* Proficient in echocardiography, requiring a high degree of precision and hand eye coordination.

Qualifications
* Accredited in either:
* British Society of Echocardiography
* Heart Rhythm UK
* MSc or equivalent relevant experience
* Must have registration with the AHCS.
