The Risk Manager role forms a vital part in our vision to become the “world’s best pet care business”. Whilst reporting into the Group Head of Profit Protection and working as part of a wider Profit Protection, Risk and Fraud Team, you will lead our risk programme.
You will play a pivotal role in promoting a positive and consistent risk culture which will safeguard the organisation by identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks that could impact the company’s operations, assets and reputation. Embedding our risk management frameworks will be your top priority whilst ensuring the business operates within its risk appetite and remains compliant with all relevant legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
About You
We are looking for a high level decision maker with the ability to establish strong, diverse relationships across multiple business areas. You will be adept in proactively embracing and driving change, with a strong network and at least 3 years risk management experience. You’ll enjoy working with a well-established high performing team, but equally happy to work independently.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Management Framework
* Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s enterprise risk management (ERM) framework.
* Identify, assess, and prioritise risks across the business, including operational, financial, strategic, regulatory, and reputational risks.
* Design and implement risk mitigation strategies, controls, and action plans in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
* Work with the Profit Protection, Internal Audit and Internal Controls Teams to drive positive change and embed risk management across the organisation.
* Support the business as we strengthen our internal controls framework (UK SOX style approach).
Risk Assessment and Monitoring
* Represent the team in working groups, assessing the risk impact of new initiatives, influencing risk-based decisions, challenging control proposals, and making recommendations to approve or reject initiatives.
* Review risk events to assess and challenge root cause, recurrent themes and remediation and recommend value-added changes.
* Monitor and report on emerging risks, trends, and changes in the external environment that could impact the business.
* Maintain and regularly update the company’s risk register, ensuring all risks are appropriately recorded and addressed.
Compliance, Governance and Business Continuity
* Ensure the organisation complies with UK regulations, industry standards and internal policies.
* Support the preparation for external audits and regulatory inspections.
* Support the groups Business Continuity framework, plans and testing regimes.
Reporting, Communication and Culture
* Produce clear and concise risk management reports for senior leadership teams, including Internal Audit for discussion at the various committees.
* Ensure that all relevant parties are aware of their risk responsibilities.
* Act as a key point of contact for governance and compliance, fostering a culture of accountability and transparency.
* Provide insights and recommendations to inform decision-making and support strategic objectives.
* Complete the rollout of our Risk Champion network and deliver training sessions and workshops to enhance risk awareness across the business.
* Work with all functional directors and/or heads to understand any significant shift in risk exposure for consideration for reporting and insurance.
