Site Engineer
Report To: Section Engineer, Project Manager
Location: Heathrow Airport
Ferrovial Construction has been working at Heathrow Airport for over 12 years delivering some of the most complex infrastructure projects to high quality, safety and environmental standards. We have focused on design and build projects with a mix of contractual arrangements. This has enabled us to refine our management procedures in response to Heathrow’s Employers Requirements and Ferrovial Construction own internal management systems.
Since joining Heathrow’s framework in 2008, Ferrovial Construction has delivered a variety of airside and landside projects across the whole airport. For example, we have delivered new taxiways and rehabilitated existing taxiways and the southern runway. We have also redeveloped sterile and grass areas and replaced critical assets, such as fire main, fuel main and HV ducts. We are currently working alongside Heathrow to rehabilitate assets with expired design life’s and plan for a future runway resurfacing project. We are constantly designing and planning our works around critical assets and engaging with different key stakeholders in order to deliver Heathrow value for money.
Role Overview and Objectives
Responsibilities:
Safety, Health, Environment & Sustainability
1. Production of Method Statements Task Briefing and Risk Assessments to be approved by supervising engineers
2. Contribution to production of all Permits to works, including briefing to the workforce
3. Carries out Safety Inspections
4. Hazard Identification and contribution to development of Safe System of Work
5. Know the company procedures and statutory regulations relating to environmental and waste management issues. Carry out necessary monitoring under the guidance of others.
Dimensional/Spatial Control
6. Provides dimensional control for a section of the works
7. Undertakes as built surveys for a section of the works and presents results in format that can be included in project records if required
8. Establishes and maintains secondary control on the project from primary control
9. Checks dimension design data early, raising technical queries to eliminate delays from insufficient information
10. Ensures that appropriate as built surveys are undertaken, correctly recorded and communicated
11. Manages the survey equipment ensuring it is suitable for the works and in calibration so that there are no dimensional control errors due to survey equipment
Workmanship, Quality, Inspection & Testing
12. Raises Non-Conformance Report (NCR) for all non-conformances and reports potential non-conformances
13. Produces Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) that correctly interpret the specified quality requirements
14. Implements the Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and the Request for Witness and Approval (RWA) procedures
15. Collates and files quality records for potential inclusion in quality assurance documentation
16. Maintaining accurate records Daily Diary, photographs, records of site discussions
17. Carries out quality control checks using internal check sheets where appropriate
18. Applies the company and external technical information to help achieve the specified quality requirements
19. Adopts and promotes a culture of “right first time”
20. Works to Weekly Programme and marks up progress achieved weekly
21. Production of accurate daily diary of resources, including labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and outputs
Information, Change Control & Records
22. Files and maintains the engineer’s drawings and specifications so that the current information is always presented to them
23. Marks up drawings & specifications with any changes referencing the documentation that verifies the change
24. Interprets and abstracts construction information from the drawings and specification and provides this to the supervisors and operatives in a clear and understandable way using sketches
Permanent Works Materials, Products, Plant & Systems
25. Measures materials usage and provides quantity information for preparation of material call off / requisitions
26. Carries out on site testing of materials, products, plant and systems as required by their role

28. The provision of sketches detailing the setting out information installed
Construction Methods, Practices and Innovation
29. Reads and understands method statements and makes sure that site operations follow these methods accurately reporting any variances to supervisors and his supervising engineer
30. Produces sketches and drawings to clarify methods and construction sequences
Temporary Works/Systems & Cranes
31. Understand and have a good command of temporary works and permits to load
32. Takes on the role of temporary works inspector for standard temporary works they are involved with
33. Makes sure that temporary works on their section are identified and the temporary works
34. procedure is applied to them
Engineering Knowledge – Capture, Sharing & Using
35. Interrogate design information and determine if there are sufficient details to construct the works. Raise relevant documentation (e.g. TIEs, TQs, CVIs, etc.) with assistance from supervising engineers / managers, to resolve discrepancies and anomalies detected.
36. Effective communication of technical information to the workforce and liaison with functions/support services within the project team in a timely & accurate manner.
37. Provide feedback to supervising engineers / managers on the effectiveness of materials, specialist contractors, plant and designers being used on site.
38. Preparation of basic calculations/drawings/sketches
Experience & Knowledge
The candidate will ideally possess the following experience and knowledge:
39. Proven experience of working with concrete structures and civil engineering/building construction.
40. Prior experience in Civil Engineering
41. Prior experience in Architectural and Landscaping packages
