The Care & Repair service supports older, disabled and vulnerable people to modify and maintain their homes so they can live independently in a safe and warm environment. Technical Officers use their architectural drawing skills and construction knowledge to support residents to consider design options, design adaptations, specify building works and appoint contractors.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Technical Officer with excellent domestic construction knowledge and experience to make a difference to lives of older, disabled and vulnerable people. The role involves working closely with occupational therapists, caseworkers, social workers, contractors and residents to design adaptations and resolve home repairs problems, act on the residents' behalf to submit planning and building regulation applications, obtain and evaluate tenders, and oversee building works on site through to final payment stage. You must be able to demonstrate the competencies required in the Building Safety Act 2022 to act as Principal Designer, and have a good working knowledge of CDM Regulations.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills to effectively manage all stakeholders in the adaptations and repairs process. You will possess good problem solving skills, a ‘can do’ attitude, compassion for people and a commitment to delivering high standards of customer care.
You will use your excellent computer aided design skills to use AutoCAD. You will have good ICT skills using Microsoft Office, and be able to write clear and accurate reports and specifications.
You will work as part of a team of 6 technical officers, including a senior technical officer, and alongside a team of caseworkers, wellbeing officer and early intervention officers. The team works on a hybrid basis; predominantly working from home but also working in our Crewe office one day per week. The Council will provide the appropriate IT equipment to enable this.
