Unfortunately, we are not able to sponsor visa applications at this time. Overview We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Technician to join our growing team. In this role, you will support the assembly, installation, testing, and maintenance of advanced mechanical systems for our experimental fusion devices and HTS magnet technology. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with a strong mechanical background. The ideal candidate should have excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to take initiativeespecially when tasked with creating custom parts and components. Main Duties and Responsibilities Assemble, install, and maintain mechanical components and systems used in fusion devices and supporting infrastructure. Work closely with mechanical and systems engineers to support the build and integration of complex machinery and experimental setups. Take initiative in responding to requests for custom partsactively engaging with requestors to clarify requirements and propose effective solutions. Interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and assembly instructions to ensure high-precision construction. Support the setup and operation of mechanical test rigs, including data collection and diagnostics. Identify issues in mechanical systems or designs and provide hands-on, practical solutions. Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting on mechanical systems to ensure operational reliability. Maintain accurate records of mechanical builds, modifications, and test results. Ensure compliance with safety procedures and participate in risk assessments and quality control. Requirements Proven hands-on experience in a workshop or laboratory environment, ideally within a high-tech or R&D setting. Strong mechanical fitting experience, Assembly: Systems or sub systems and fabrication skills such as: building ITEM frameworks from drawings. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications. Familiarity with a range of hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues and develop practical solutions. NVQ Level 3, BTEC, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. Desirable : Experience in vacuum systems, cryogenics, or high-precision engineering. Knowledge of welding, machining, or CNC operations. Prior work in energy, aerospace, nuclear, or related high-tech industries. Mechanical Engineering, Factory Maintenance, Instrumentation, Automation and Mechatronics skills Forklift or crane operation certification is a plus. Time served Apprentice. Work with cryogenic fluids including liquid nitrogen. Working with or in the vicinity of equipment that produces high magnetic fields.
